Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones won't be back in black until Summer 2012, but JoBlo has already gotten an early look at the plot of their new 3D reunion, Men in Black 3.

Since the news broke that Jemaine Clement will play the baddie in the film, we've known that Men in Black 3 would involve a time travel plot of sorts.  It now seems that Yaz (Clement) will be the sole villain in the flick and is described as being "a nightmarish biker who looks like Dennis Hopper and Satan [who is] not meant to be particularly funny." Why exactly the nerdy comedian was cast in the role and not someone like Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2) or Danny Trejo (Machete), I don't understand.

Yaz apparently travels back to the year 1969 in the hopes of killing the younger version of Jones' character, Agent Kay (most likely to be played by Josh Brolin), thus setting off a series of events that result in the destruction of Earth.  The explanation for how and why this would work is apparently pretty muddled at this point in the script's development, but I suppose that's not of the utmost importance yet.

Agent Jay (Smith) follows the evil "biker villain" back in time on his own so as to do something that Smith has never had to do in a film before - save the world. ;-).  A stereotypical time travel adventure ensues, complete with cliché jokes that result from the cultural clash between the modern-day Jay and the members of the Flower Power generation.

Men in Black 3

Like the previous installments of the sci-fi franchise, Men in Black 3 will expose several famous names and faces as being aliens in disguise - this time they will all be celebrities from the 60s, including Beatles lady Yoko Ono, musician Jimi Hendrix, Fidel Castro, NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and even avant-garde artist Andy Warhol.

Hopefully, their cameos will be funnier than Michael Jackson's was in Men in Black 2 (see below).  I guess making a joke about the King of Pop being an alien was so easy that the screenwriters didn't feel the need to put much effort into it.

Men in Black

The plot of the third Men in Black flick sounds pretty lame to me, based off this description.  That's not to say the final product won't be entertaining - especially since David Koepp is rewriting the script - but consider me indifferent towards this less-than-necessary sequel for now.

What do you think?  Does the time travel plot have potential?  Any thoughts on how it could work better?  Let us know in the comments section below.

Men in Black 3 hits regular and 3D theaters in the U.S. on May 25th, 2012.
