We’ve had quite a bit of news arise out of this year’s ShoWest convention in Las Vegas and today we have some interesting news about Men in Black 3.
During Sony’s presentation, president Rory Bruer discussed some of the upcoming big-name projects that Sony has in the works: Spider-Man 4, Ghostbusters 3 and Men in Black 3 (all very original projects…).
Sony’s confirmation that they are developing the script for another Men in Black movie builds on the rumors we heard last year about a third movie in the franchise.

It was reported last October that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were apparently interested in suiting up for a third alien adventure and that one of the producers of the first two films was interesting in bringing everyone back together for another go.
I really enjoyed the first Men in Black and I think it worked pretty well for all audiences. It made nearly $600 million at the box office and received very strong reviews. The second one however, was a pretty big disappointment. The sequel was shot down by critics and it earned less money than the original despite a larger budget and increased marketing. In the end, Men in Black II still managed to be a financial success.
Men in Black II came out seven years ago so perhaps people will forget all the negative by the time another one hits theaters. I think for the movie to work, it has to have its two leads back in some form (perhaps they could introduce new characters for further installments?). I find it a little strange that either would want to do another one at this point in their careers, although Will Smith can sell anything so it makes sense that Sony would push for another installment and have it as a summer tent-pole release.

The second movie left the door open for a third so this is really no suprise. It always come down to money and who else can make money like Will Smith?
i actually liked the second film and would be interested in a third installment.
I loved MIB and I liked MIB2 , so I’d be happy to give them another shot.

Love April the 1st. MIB was definitely fun and the animated series was pretty good too, but MIIB was blah,IMHO. Most franchise have at least one blah film, maybe MIIB was that one. Bring will definitely be big and hopefully better than MIB with Will “BANK” Smith backing the deal.

Like Monsters vs. Aliens, I never felt that the Men in Black franchise ever truly capitalized on it’s inherent conceit (Dragnet with aliens? You’d have to actively try to write a bad script), albeit, the first one did take better advantage of it than MvA took advantage of its’.
It all depends on the writing.
I enjoyed the first one greatly, but skipped out halfway though number 2 to well… anyway. By the time I got back more inexplicable stuff was happening and I really didn’t feel like I missed anything.
So yeah, they can keep this unreleased.
Wait, they will do a MIB 3 but no Bad Boys 3? That bites, but I guess a 3rd MIB wouldn’t be to bad.
While I (and most) loved the first movie, MIBII/MIIB was plain bad, aside from maybe the tune ‘Black Suits Comin’ and the promotional posters. The question for III was simply getting everyone together again in the right time and place.
I would welcome a MIIIB.

If Sony also announces a Bad Boys 3, I only hope it’s better written than the previous two. What would be interesting even more is that if Michael Bay is wrapped up in the Transformers films…will another director take the wheel should it come to pass?
Yeah I just looked at the Box Office intake from both MIB’s and BB’s, and MIB completely dominated in the Box Office. So that’s probably why they went with MIB instead.
@bigDog…that’s because as much as people love Will Smith, half as many despise Martin Lawrence. The guy is NOT that funny and shouldn’t be a lead in anything. He’s, at best, a supporting actor. Bad Boys was ok, but BB2 was bad.
Back on topic, I loved MIB, but was less than enthused about the 2nd one. I would love to see them do ONE more film to wrap up the franchise in style as long as it holds up to quality of the first one. Oh, and NO prequel, remimagining crap either….
I enjoyed Bad Boys 2 more than the first one. It was a ridiculous movie but I found it tons of fun in a crowded theater. It was hilarious and the action was awesome.
Maybe if they get Ed Solomon to write it! That would be something to look forward to.
