Melanie Laurent Is An Inglourious Basterd

Published 5 years ago by

In a very smart marketing move, The Weinstein Company have been releasing character centric posters for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming WWII flick Inglourious Basterds quite regularly now, one at a time, a couple of days apart. It’s still over three months away until it’s release, which is why the marketing hasn’t ramped up to the usual point of not being able to change a channel on TV without seeing an ad for the movie. But the regular, bit-by-bit exposure will keep it fresh in people’s mind as the release date proceeds to get closer and closer.

We’ve already had Brad Pitt, Eli Roth and Diane Kruger centric posters and today we have a Melanie Laurent one for your viewing pleasure. This, and the Krueger one, certainly add the sexiness to the mix while Pitt and Roth bring the tough guy thing. Check it out:

The sexy but tough looking Laurent will play a character called Shosanna Dreyfus, making her English language film debut (I suspected she’ll either still speak entirely in French, or she’ll be heavily accented). She’s just one of many that are part of the wildly diverse cast that ranges from Brad Pitt, Eli Roth and Diane Krueger to Cloris Leachman, Julie Dreyfus and Mike Myers (I know, strange!), amongst others.

All of Tarantino’s work is a strange mix of originality and homages, being entertaining movies within their own right but at the same time feeling like a throwback to cinematic tellings of the past. Being a war movie and going by the trailer it’ll no doubt be as graphically violent as his past films, if not moreso. It will no doubt also be very much dialogue driven. Why? Because that’s what Tarantino does, and he usually does it brilliantly.

Will this be the last character centric poster? Probably not (I’d love to see a Mike Myers one – now that would be classic…), but I think four is enough to feast our eyes on for now.

What do you make of this latest character centric poster for the movie? Which of the four do you like best?

Inglourious Basterds is to premiere at Cannes later this month, and is set to be released theatrically on August 21st this year.

  3. @790

Take Tarantino out of the equation (I’m assuming you’re not a fan) – on their own, I think this series of posters is pretty cool.
