The first trailer for the Mel Gibson action/drama Edge of Darkness is out and it looks good. Edge of Darkness features Gibson as a Boston detective who uncovers a conspiracy while investigating the death of his activist daughter. The film was written by William Monahan (The Departed) and was directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).

(Fun fact: The part played by Ray Winstone was originally supposed to be played by Robert De Niro who dropped out of the film in its early stages.)

Check out the trailer and a poster for the film below:

In recent years, it seems Mel Gibson’s personal life has clouded his considerable talents as an actor and director. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that, even at the age of 53, Gibson is one of Hollywood’s most credible action stars. I am looking forward to seeing him back on the screen (it’s been six years since he last starred in a film) doing what he does best.

What do you think? Does the first trailer make you excited for the film?

Edge of Darkness hits theaters January 29th, 2010.

  1. @Robyn

That just means Mel hasn’t made a movie with a political message the “Academy” wanted to promote. Doesn’t mean squat anymore like the Nobel Peace Prize…

  2. Dang!!!!!!!!!! That was good.

  3. I just want to see him kick that much ass and more in Mad Max four before they wait too long, or give it to somebody half that cool.
Wish they could talk some sense into those idiots, and make a good story that was actually good and could incorperate somthing besides this ROCKNROLLA REBOOT crap.
The old guys are so outa touch.

  4. And by “old guys” I mean the directors who make films… The kind of people who put C.G.I. ants and cartoon monkeys in Indiana JOnes and turned it to a dinsney flick…
    Money money, money.
Mel could make Mad Max right, and it’d be a revolution in modern film genre.

  5. That’s funny, it’s usually the one that green lights the picture that gets blamed for being the old fossil. Though the director or the writer or the actors usually take plenty of blame if the show is just plain bad. If your Mel you have to want to do the picture, for the right reasons. Phoning the performance in Isn’t going to cut it. Number four will be a Miller production after all, how can you site anyone else to do it at this point. He made the “Mad Max” franchise as much as Mel or anyone else from its origins. I think the majority of that franchises’ fans would rather see Max’s story go forward rather than look back or get a substitute or a reboot…

  6. —WHY is Gibson boring us wsith such routine comfort-zone
slop as this? —It’s 2010! —we’re tired of decades
    stale thriller vehicles already!
