Megan Fox Says No to Lara Croft and Tomb Raider… Again

Published 5 years ago by , Updated March 3rd, 2014 at 6:28 am,

Megan Fox has reportedly once again turned down the chance to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot, which we actually haven’t heard about since this time last year.

The funny thing is that this isn’t really news  – by my count Megan Fox has been denying Lara Croft rumors since they began early last year.

However, since those “official” movie trades have trouble keeping up with news like our wonderful blogosphere ;-), we shall discuss a bit (and look at some really pretty pictures).

We learned last summer that this Tomb Raider reboot is going to be a “realistic” origin story about how Lara Croft became the badass adventurer we all know and love (to look at). At that time we also saw Fox’s name once again resurface in the rumor mill (maybe she would change her mind?) but that was the last we heard of it.

Today Showbiz Spy is reporting the word of “a movie insider” who says:

“The offer has been on the table for Megan for a while but she’s reluctantly turned it down…She’s the logical choice to play Lara and she loves the character but the comparison with Angelina is too much. It looks like the movie will now star an unknown.”

So, it’s not that Megan Fox wants to be a serious dramatic actress instead of the typecast eye candy bombshell – it’s that she doesn’t want to be caught up in Angelina Jolie’s shadow? Has somebody explained to this girl that there are far worse things than being equated with a world-famous and award-winning actress who has her pick of both prestigious AND action star roles while also raising a massive U.N.-style family and occasionally saving the world?

But hey, I digress.

Hilariously enough, there is somebody vying for Megan Fox’s Lara Croft leftovers…none other than Clayface Heidi Montag. I wish this was an April Fool’s joke, but it’s not. Please bear with and check out what Heidi posted on her twitter page:

“I want to be blonde tomb raider, i’m better with guns then both Angelina and Megan fox put together!”

You know what, let’s stop there – this is making Screen Rant sound like a freaking gossip rag. On one level, I understand that this is all real, yet my brain just can’t accept it as anything but an April Fool’s prank that somehow leaked into reality.

The point is – Megan Fox: No on Lara Croft, no on Tomb Raider, no on being the next Angelina Jolie. She’s totally cool with Transformers 3, though. [Update: She’s not cool with Transformers 3 either…]

As for the fate of the Tomb Raider reboot? We’ll see if the studio really does approach an unknown, or if they get lazy and simply tap the next “hot girl” who can’t really act to come along.

By some miracle, maybe there’s another gorgeous actress with real acting chops they can get for the role of Lara Croft. Any suggestions?

  1. man megan is a perfect tomb raider though.

  2. She foolish for not taking the role in my opinion. What's she gonna do instead? Another movie like “Jennifer's Body”? This is a great role, and most likely a new franchise, which would guarantee her multiple blockbuster releases.

  3. heidi….straight to dvd

  4. Heidi….straight to the dumpster.

  5. Adelaide Kane is the only choice. :)

  6. get Summer Glau.. Fox is way overrated in every way.

  7. I can kinda see Bridget Regan as Lara. At least I think she's a better actress..

  8. How about Erica Durance, the actress who plays Lois Lane on Smallville? She has most certainly got the curves to fill out the Laura Croft outfits and do it right. Shes also used to action roles from Smallville. I bet she would also more look the part with some hair color and style change.

    Anyone else???

  9. How about Erica Durance, the actress who plays Loius Lane on SMALLVILLE? She certainly has the curves to fill a Laura Croft outfit and do it right!

  10. Has somebody explained to this girl that there are far worse things than being equated with a world-famous and award-winning actress who has her pick of both prestigious AND action star roles while also raising a massive U.N.-style family and occasionally saving the world?

I like how you first make fun of the reliability of a rumor and then proceed to a rant as if it was true. By the way, had you checked it out a little, you would have found out this one has already been officially denied by Megan's rep. Indeed then, you are a proud member of the wonderful blogosphere. 😛

  11. Big mistake for Megan Fox to turn down Tomb Raider. Especially when the best thing on her to do list is Transformers 3. Try having her be in a GOOD action franchise, then go from there.

  12. She finally gets a major role offered (Thanks again for making her career Michael Bay!! She doesn't seem to think fit to say thanks, but I would if I was her !!), and she turns this roll down, twice ?? Is she off her rocker? Something has got to be wrong here.

Oh my god – someone get her a new agent and talk some sense into her and tell her to take her looks and ego out of the equation! I'm not all for her acting anymore in the TF movies, so she better do something big, or her career will come to a screeching hault in coming years..

  13. I agree !! More and mainly TV series work like the 4400, CSI, Sarah Conner Chronicles, but she could pull it off for sure. .I think Megan Fox needs to get her ego in check.. quick !

  14. I agree that Erica Durance would be a good choice if she could could pull off a decent british accent. Let's face it people, Megan Fox couldn't pull off a british accent even if she tried. She might be hot but she will NEVER be the next Angelina Jolie. My vote goes to Erica!

  15. Looks, but I don't think she has the acting down yet.. still too 'playful' in Smallville… These are tough shoes to fill !!

  16. Yup and an Ego to boot !

  17. yep, but she's not smart enough to see beyond the idea? Go figure.

  18. Summer Glau gets my vote as well. She's already proven her capacity for action roles many times over.

  19. Megan really is perfect for the part but She is right, she has to do her own thing. Being the “next” so and so is not what you want. You want to be the person who gets comparison such as so and so is the next you.

  20. haha wow she'd be a perfect lara croft (megan fox) i definitely would watch it but since she turned it down :( & if i had to pick some girls for the role…i've got a few suggestions: Rachel Bilson, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez (if they'd let her do it), maybe Hayden Panettiere, those are only some of the ones that i suggest. anyone agree or disagree with any of the people i named? y'all have a right to voice your opinion, negative or positive.

  21. If I have to see Heidi Montag play Lara Croft I'll puke! I'm so sick of seeing this fake, blonde, disgustingly annoying girl's face all over the web!

  22. Screw Megan & Angie…Gimme Olivia Wilde!!!! She's Perfect!

  23. MILA KUNIS would be perfect to play Lara

  24. MILA KUNIS would be perfect to play Lara

  25. She didn't turn it down, this rumor has been officially denied. The fact it came from “Showbiz Spy” should have been a clue.

By the way, Megan thanked Michael Bay many times. Why would you assume otherwise? Maybe cause this doesn't make for a juicy enough story to be picked up by the blogs… Duh, how stupid of me to ask.

  26. jessica beil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. And you need to get your gullibility in check, for trusting Internet rumors 😛

  28. Well, if you YOU had done a little digging into this article you would've noticed the links to older articles where Fox HAS been shooting down this role for a YEAR now. That's why it's not in front of cameras already – so what's your point?

Our tracking of Megan Fox / Tomb Raider has been No, Maybe, No (which you are now saying is a maybe).

Notice how none of these is a YES. So how am I wrong? By claiming somebody else claimed she said No when her reps (the truth tellers themselves) are saying “it's not a no.”????

Um… Good for her? It's not a no or a yes?
