Rumor Patrol: Megan Fox to Star in ‘Carrie’ Remake

Published 4 years ago by , Updated August 13th, 2013 at 10:03 pm,

No classic horror title is safe from the remake syndrome nowadays – and Brian De Palma’s well-known 1976 adaptation of the Stephen King novel, Carrie, is the latest cinematic scarefest that is being prepped for a makeover - courtesy of MGM and Screen Gem.

News regarding active development on a Carrie remake only broke at the end of last week, but already there’s a big name actress reportedly interested in playing the titular teenager: the 25-year-old starlet of the first two Transformers movies, Megan Fox.

Fox was apparently approached at one point to play Wonder Woman on-screen (in the recently-defunct TV series reboot, perhaps?) but Showbiz Spy claims it has been informed by sources close to the actress that “she wants to move on to more serious roles.” Hence her interest in playing Carrie – and, by implication, why she is not appearing in this summer’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon (be sure to take all of that with a grain of salt).

The actress played a teenager who seeks vengeance upon those who wronged her (with the use of supernatural powers) once before in the horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body, which failed to impress critics and didn’t exactly rake in cash at the box office. More importantly: Does Fox even remotely resemble the kind of person who’d be mocked by her high school peers and looked down upon as an awkward outcast – like Sissy Spacek did when she played Carrie in De Palma’s film?

Regardless of whether you think Fox wasn’t allowed a fair chance to demonstrate her acting prowess in the first two Transformers movies – or if you feel she really is just a pretty face and nothing more – it’s near impossible to argue that casting the actress as Carrie makes sense, at least from an artistic standpoint. The argument that Fox would increase the box office potential of Carrie doesn’t hold water either, as illustrated by the failure of Jennifer’s Body – and that was in spite of the film being scripted by Diablo Cody (fresh off her Oscar win for Juno) and boasting (among other things) a scene in which Fox and Amanda Seyfried locked lips.

It ought to be mentioned that the idea of Fox starring in the new Carrie is strictly RUMOR at this point – and while this casting move certainly isn’t out of the question, it’s far from a sure thing right now. On the other hand: there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of enthusiasm for another cinematic take on King’s spooky coming-of-age tale as is, so it’s difficult to say whether this rumor will help or hinder the current outlook for the project.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of the Carrie remake as more information is released.

  1. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA not watching…

    • Agreed.

What a bad idea. That movie is great, and I’ll take those seventies girls over Megan Fox any day. Sissy Spacek was perfect too. Brian DePalma, John Travolta, the Greatest American Hero, Nancy Allen…

  2. God damn it! Another great remake ruined!

    • Agreed!

  3. Megan who?

  4. Wrong look, too old, and no range as an actress. If they want to make this reboot work, they’ll have to find an incredible cast that can suck you into the movie. More like Ellen Page — not too old, great acting chops, and not glossed over. Don’t know right off hand of too many actresses in the 17-21 age that can pull it off right.

  5. Yeah unless you get an amazing make-up artist, she doesn’t fit the bill.

  6. Are you fraking kidding me??!! The girls from Hanna and Kick-Ass would be great in this role. Why go for a pretty face who can’t act? By Grapthar’s Hammer, this movie will suck!

    • What about Dakota Fanning?

      • I second that. I am gonna go out on a limb and say Jennifer Lawrence.

  7. Proof, yet again, that Hollywood producers hate us all.

  8. ::Reads Report::

  9. How about no remake? I like Megan but I hate the remake.

    • You hate a movie that a movie that you haven’t even seen or know nothing about? Wow

  10. They’re all gonna laugh at you!

  11. Ahh hell no. This idea was about as well thought out as Jennifers Body

  12. Somewhere a wry smile slides across the face of Michael Bay.

    • lol niiice

  13. What’s the big deal anyway?! She is beautiful to look at and she has an opinion about both Michael Bay and Hollywood. The girl has a brain and there’s nothing wrong with that. Get over yourself already!!

    • She has a brain, but I don’t she knows how to use it properly. But that’s just going by her interviews.

@”she has an opinion about both Michael Bay and Hollywood.”

What’s your point with that? From what I’ve seen on recent threads is that EVERYBODY has an opinion about those same things.

  14. Really!?! Casting her ruins the whole message of the film…

Other Great casting Ideas While they are at it:

Matthew McConaughey in a remake of “Mask”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a remake of “Rocky”

Katherine Heigl in a remake of “When Harry Met Sally… ”

Justin Bieber in a remake of “8 Mile”

    • Why are you telling me that?!? I’m not the one making the movie! Besides, who cares about the message of the film where people are killed by a psychic going nuts on her schoolmates!?! Its a movie. Enjoy it or shut it and don’t watch it!!! ;)

  15. Yeah, I can just see her having zero friends in high school and being real unpopular, especially with the boys…:-)

Apart from that, sure, Carrie’s a great story from Master King and I’m sure the CGI guys can uglify Megan with
lots of computing power (gonna need one of those supercomputers they use for calculating climatic change over the next couple Aeons….)

  16. They only scary thing about the remake would be a close-up of Megan Fox’s thumbs…LOL

    Google them!

    • HAHAHAHA oh man! those Toe Thumbs are very creepy…

  17. She doesn’t deserve any more work in hollywood. GET A DIFFERENT ACTRESS HOLLYWOOD!

  18. Lohan wants the role too I hear.

    • Actually I think Lohan would be great as Carrie.

  19. Seriously people…did anyone see Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump? Heath Ledger as the Joker? Charlize Theron as that crazy ugly murderer in Monster?

Megan Fox could pull it off. Cut her hair, dress her in crappy clothes, no make up, a few pimples, good acting.

Besides, where does it say Carrie has to be UGLY? She wasn’t an outcast because she was ugly, she was an outcast because she was socially inept and awkward. Any actress worth anything pull that off.

I would love nothing more than for Megan Fox to get the role and blow everyone away. Go Megs.

    • All of the examples you gave actually have acting ability. Megan Fox has, well… not acting ability.

      • Exactly. Does anyone remember the last horror film Fox did called Jennifer’s Body? Yeah, didn’t think so. Well, that film was just horrible. Fox can’t carry a lead role.

    • I completely agree. Would love to see Megan Fox as Carrie.

  20. Megan Fox would make a MUCH better on the Nancy Allen character’s update. She’s got the mean girl thing down already. And Sissy Spacek could play Carrie’s mother.

    • I really hope that this doesn’t happen, but if it does Lindsay Lohan as “Carrie”. Even Stephen King endorsed her for the role.

@ eddie- i thought the same as you with casting Sissy Spacek as her mother.

    • Eddie I agree with you. Megan Fox should be the blue eye long dark Burnette Version of Chris Hargenson as desribe in the book. Nancy Allen was a shoulder length dirty blonde with green/hazel eyes, Emilie D Ravin was a long Platium Blonde with sky blue eyes. Also Lindsey Lohan would make a better Carrie the only problem is that Lindsey Smoked and did Drugs for so long that she does not look like she can play a mistfit abused High school girl. Also yes I did had an idea that sissy spacek should def play Margret White also if they do do a this carrie remake it should be in thearters like the 76 version but insted 3d and also this one should have a T.V series like they were suppose to do in the remake 2002 version Carrie thats if they let Lindsey live in this one like the 2002 one.

  21. Hahaha! Oh my word, this is gonna be a joke. How is Hollywood so blind and stupid? I honestly don’t understand it. I don’t.

  22. I see an effort by Fox to grow out of being typecast as nothing but eye-candy. That’s admirable. But this project isn’t right for her. She needs to let the hype machine die down and move on to someone else; in the meantime, she could be polishing her admittedly questionable acting skills in theater somewhere. Work on her chops, work her way back into film through more challenging indie films, and in a few years she could come back into the mainstream and be accepted as an actress like she would like to be, instead of just being the “hot girl.” Does she have the skill to pull it off? I don’t know, her roles to date haven’t required any acting. But I respect her for wanting to do more.

  23. Is this a joke?

  24. Now… don’t hate me… but: GET LOHAN.

The real life parallels would be great, and I’m sure at this point Lindsay (a.k.a. prisoner #2848575856968) feels like she might want to psychically murder the world. At least the paparazzi. This would be good healthy venting for her. :-)

    • Sounds good to me :). I actually like Lohan. So don’t hate me

      • I agree. Lohan would be a great choice.

  25. I can’t see this happening. I can understand why she would want to do it but I can’t imagine her getting the part.
And I guess now is as good a time as any for me to confess that “Jennifers Body” is one of my true guilty pleasure films. So bad it’s funny. But I still say no way to her being in “Carrie”.

  26. Cast whatever you want, I’m not paying to see this remake. Whata joke.
