Spider-Man: Homecoming's Scorpion actor, Michael Mando, wants a Sony spin-off for his character. In Marvel Comics, Mac Gargan starts off as a private investigator who later becomes the subject of an experiment that takes away his sanity and gives him the characteristics of a scorpion. Later on, he even becomes Venom. The character made his MCU debut with 2017's Homecoming in a small role. Gargan is one of the gangsters who meets with Vulture (Michael Keaton) and his team on the Staten Island Ferry. Following a fight with Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Gargan is arrested and sent to prison. In Homecoming's post-credits scene, Gargan crosses paths with Vulture once again and expresses his interest in taking out Spider-Man. This seems to indicate the MCU has greater plans for him, though they've yet to be realized.

As the MCU continues to focus primarily on Spider-Man, Sony is busy establishing its own Spider-Man-adjacent universe. Starting back in 2018 with Venom, Sony aims to use the Marvel characters they still retain the rights to and build said universe. Venom 2 is slated to arrive in October of this year, and Morbius was recently moved from July to March 2021. It's not clear what Sony's Spider-Man plans are beyond Morbius (the studio has reserved a date in October 2021 for an unknown movie), but many are expecting the long-awaited Sinister Six to arrive at some point. Additionally, thanks to Keaton's presence in the Morbius trailer, there's a chance the Sony universe could merge with the MCU.

If so, Mando is interested in returning. While talking to Screen Rant about the latest season of Better Call Saul, Mando revealed his desire for a Scorpion movie over at Sony. Mando explained:

I definitely would. I think that would be fascinating – a detective who goes rogue. Mac Gargan kind of goes a little bit insane, and there’s also this other story where he becomes Venom as well. I think it’s a very, very rich character; it’s a dark character. And he’s a cop at the end of the day; he’s a detective. I think that’d be something that I would definitely be something I’d like to watch.

Michael Mando Scorpion Spider-Man Homecoming

If Sony really is gearing up for a Sinister Six movie, it could provide the best opportunity for Mando's return as Scorpion. Between him, Vulture, Morbius, and Venom, there are quite a few Spider-Man villains already in play on the big screen. It's not entirely outside the realm of possibility that they could team up in the future to take down Holland's Spider-Man. As of right now, Holland is attached to one more solo MCU Spider-Man adventure and one additional MCU film. However, Sony's chairman Tom Rothman previously expressed his interest at keeping Spidey within the MCU, so that could change.

Just last month, Mando seemed to tease his potential Marvel universe return with a cryptic tweet. Could the plans for Scorpion's return already be in motion? If he has anything to do with the unrevealed 2021 Sony film, then they might be. As of right now, however, fans have to wait to find out if the Homecoming villain will be back.
