Maybe A First Look At Joker From The Dark Knight?

May 19, 2007 by

first-joker.jpgUpdate: So it’s definitely a look at Heath Ledger as the joker. Click on the image to get a big, creepy look at him. This movie will not be for the little kiddies, the photo is pretty gross so the image here is small and I’ve blurred it a bit.

There’s a site related to The Dark Knight that contains a promotional image for the character District Attorney Harvey Dent. It’s basically an election poster:

It’s nice to see an image from the movie, but it’s pretty boring, really. Now if you want to see something very similar that could turn out to be much more interesting, head on over to this very similarly name website:

http://www.IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com/

At first I wasn’t sure what the point of the site was… You enter your email address and you then receive a link with an X &Y coordinate to input on the landing page. What happens when you do that is that you uncover one pixel of an image that is beneath the political poster.

The email will come from email account “tragicpast” and this was in the email I received:

“I always say, you never know what a man is truly made of until you peel the skin off his face one piece at a time.”

I think that sets the tone for the character quite nicely, don’t you? :-)

What is it an image of? I don’t know, but the more people that visit the page and input coordinates the faster we’ll find out, so head on over and do your part!

Nice bit of viral marketing. :-)

  1. If you hit refresh more pixels disappear and you can start to see the outline of the joker mask.

  2. The reason you see more disappear when you hit refresh is from new people constantly visiting the page and updating it.

  3. Wow, diffently a more darker tone. Man, I am starting to get high hopes for The Dark Knight.

  4. Um, I may be slow, but all I get from the site is a page not found thing and when you highlight it theres a bunch of hahahahahaahahahahahhaas. Where do you put the email into

  5. Oh, now THAT’s interesting…. they’ve removed the image and replaced it with a bunch of “Ha Ha”s in different font sizes.

    Very “Jokerish”. :-)

You can find the image here (and on many other sites):

  6. Gotcha, ok. So I wasn’t just going insane. hah

  7. If that’s what the Joker is to look like in the
    Dark Knight,I’ll be very dissapointed. I didn’t
think Heath Ledger was such a good choice for the
    Joker anyway. This SUX!

  8. Kel,

Can you elaborate on why you’re disappointed? Do you think it’s TOO creepy?

    Vic

  9. Looks Fantastic! Much more of an improvement than Jack Nicholson’s version, as amazing as that was. Heath Looks chilling. Imagine that gash face with a wacked-out smile! If it’s better than ‘Begins’, a truly daunting task, then it will be the greatest comic film of all time!

  10. I think “The Dark Knight” may end up reflecting some of the much darker Batman stories that have been created for comic book pages. I’m hoping it doesn’t turn out TOO creepy. It is Batman, after all and not “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

  11. It’s mostly because that isn’t exactly my
collective notion of who that character is. I
mean Nicholson was good and all,but he wasn’t as
close to the comics as I had hoped,a lot of stuff
in the 1989 Batman wasn’t. When I heard they were
going to put the Joker in The Dark Knight,I was
hoping they were going for a version a little more
grounded in the comics, kinda how he was on Batman:
the animated series. That’s the only version of
Batman and gang I’ve really been satisfied with.
That show got a lot right: the characters, the
costumes, and it took itself seriously. So I don’t
necessarily think he looks too scary, but that he
doesn’t look like like the Joker. Google an Alex
Ross picture of the Joker and compare it to
this, and you’ll see what I mean. And just when I
was thinking this movie would be ok with the Heath
Ledger Joker. Not that it’s Heath’s fault he looks
this way,but I still don’t think he can pull it off,
and this picture has just strengthened my opinion.
    I mean look at some of the movies he’s been in;
don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great actor,
I like a lot of movies he’s been in (except that
    one,Brokeback Mountain,was it? I know he carried
the role well, but I don’t agree with the message
at all),but he’s always played kind of a lovey-
dovey type of guy and now Chris Nolan wants him to
play this iconic comic book villain? I’m not sure
    he can do it.

  12. You poor, poor fools! The only proper representation of the Joker is in Sandy Collara’s fan film, ‘Batman – Dead End’.http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7257032451176616508&q=Batman+dead+end

This guy is the Joker. Jack Nicholson was about 300 lbs overweight. This guy is skinny, crazy and has a triangular-shaped head from smiling too much. At least Heath Ledger has a weird gob anyway.

  13. Is his face cut? Or does it just look that way to
me? I’ve tried to see the larger version of the
picture, but every time I click it I just get a
page that says “this page not found”.

And as for your comment, falikunj,Jack Nicholson
was a tad bit heavy, but definitely not 300 lbs.
overweight. The guy in “Dead End” looks good, with
the exception of the humongous eye brows. The
dialougue is rather crappy, but the action makes up
for it. The guy that’s playing the Joker in
“Dead End” sounds like he’s doing a really bad
imitation of Mark Hamill’s Joker off Batman:TAS.
    That version,as I mentioned before,is,if you know
your source material, still the truest to the
comix. And if you want to see what I say the Joker
should look like, check out an Alex Ross picture of
the Joker. And,while he’s supposed to look some-
what scary, the Joker uses something as innoccent
as the persona of a clown to commit his dastardly
deeds,so at first glance people think he’s,well,
joking. Then, when they realize he isn’t,it becomes
scary. Batman dresses like a spooky creature of
the night to strike fear in the hearts of
criminals, and therefore remains a mystery to even
the innoccent;until they realize that he’s a force
for good;and then he’s not so scary. It’s rather
ironic;Batman uses fear to do what he does, and the
Joker uses our trust in the more innoccent things
    to do what he does.

  14. i agree with kel completely. not too creepy. just not funny. heh….
