FX Chief John Landgraf has shared his high hopes that Kurt Sutter's Mayans MC project will eventually be picked up. The Sons of Anarchy spinoff will tell the tale of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, a prospected new recruit for the Mayans MC biker gang on the California/Mexico border after his American dream was halted due to a sudden and tragic turn of events. Fueled by his anger, he is out for revenge against those who have wronged him and his family. Despite the biker plot points that Mayans MC is looking to center on, its core theme will be family and how EZ will deal with the tragedy in his life helping the show to have a more grounded and relatable narrative.

It has been a slow process for the project, which has been in development for quite some time now. Coupled with the seeming lack of official updates regarding it, fans are starting to wonder whether the show has a good chance of successfully getting into the airwaves or if it will be an uphill climb to convince execs to roll it out. But if the FX President, Landgraf, is to be asked, he has nothing but positive enthusiasm about the series making it into public broadcast.

Speaking at FX's TCA presentation where a clip from Mayans MC was revealed during an ad for FX+ subscription service, Landgraf has shared that he is "very confident about the future" of this series. In fact, he is so optimistic about the show's chances that he believes that the official pick-up will be announced in the next three months.

This is despite recent developments revealing that the spinoff is to undergo massive pilot reshoots under the supervision of a new director, as well as, executive producer. Some of its lead cast members are said to also going to be recast. As it turns out, Sutter, who helmed the series premiere, is relegating directorial duties to Norberto Barba, so that he can focus more on writing the treatment for Mayans MC.

No word as to the recasting process for Mayans MC but the new rounds of production is expected to kick-off sometime late summer. The original cast of characters includes J. D. Pardo as Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, Edward James Olmos as EZ’s father, Felipe Reyes, Jacqueline Obradors as  the Reyes matriarch Marisol, John Ortiz as Esai “Taino” Osorio, Antonio Jaramillo as Michael “Riz” Ariza, Richard Cabral as Johnny “El Coco” Cruz, Clayton Cardenas as Angel Reyes and Sarah Bolger as Emily.
