Netflix has debuted the first teaser trailer for Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the animated sequel series to the iconic '80s series. Following the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor, the story centers on Teela as she sets out in search of the missing Sword of Power in order to prevent the end of the universe. The series features an ensemble cast including Chris Wood in the titular role alongside Mark Hamill, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Liam Cunningham, Lena Headey, Diedrich Bader, Alicia Silverstone, and Stephen Root.

Development on the adult-focused animated series was announced in late 2019 when Netflix revealed it was working on two He-Man projects including a family-oriented CG animated series, much like its Emmy-winning She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The streaming platform would once again partner with Powerhouse Animation Studios to bring the series to life after having previously worked with the Texas-based company for its Castlevania series. Audiences have been anxiously waiting for the series thanks to countless teases from Smith himself and the time is rapidly approaching.

With roughly a month and a half left until the series' arrival, Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Set to the tune of Bonnie Tyler's iconic Footloose track, "Holding Out for a Hero," the first footage offers a look at the action-packed story. Check out the teaser trailer below:

Given plot details have been generally kept under wraps up to this point, the first trailer goes a long way to offer some insight as to what Revelation will explore. From a time in which Eternia has been destroyed to He-Man's iconic Sword of Power going missing, the continuation of Filmnation's '80s series has a lot of promising evolutions for its characters and universe even while Smith promises the series won't reinvent its central hero. Plus, to hear Hamill's take on Skeletor's infamous laugh wonderfully displays the vocal range fans have come to expect from the Joker voice actor.

The animation seen in the trailer also proves effective for hyping up audiences, showing a solid transition from the meme-worthy style of its predecessor to the more intense animated format. Though the live-action film reboot may be in a state of limbo following Noah Centineo's departure from the role, the world of He-Man is right around the corner as Masters of the Universe: Revelation will debut its first five episodes and an aftershow special on July 23. Plus with a second part also in the works alongside the CG series and the door open for a crossover with She-Ra, Eternia and sister planet Etheria aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
