One of 2017's most highly-anticipated games is Mass Effect: Andromeda, the follow-up to the iconic, intergalactic BioWare series that mixes RPG and combat-focused gaming styles. Because of its focus on complex characters, fans are especially excited to learn about the cast that will lead Andromeda, which is set between the second and third games from Shepard's arc.

However, good video game characters are nothing without skilled voice actors to back them up, and we're pleased to announce that BioWare announced the addition of one particularly welcome cast member yesterday, with a special video.

According to an original sketch released to the gaming company's YouTube channelSilicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani will play a key role in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Though, as the video teases, his character isn't quite the mysterious lothario he hoped for -- in the funny reveal, a producer explains to Nanjiani that he will be voicing "more like a space lizard," or a "skinny, frog-like creature." The video also hints that, although Nanjiani's character is "important to the whole initiative...people don't respect him." Check out the full video, featuring Najiani's funny reaction, below:

The video ends in a teaser for an interview with Nanjiani, where he says the following about his character:

"He's sort of a weaselly guy, I think he means well, but he also likes power. He's excited, but also a little bit in over his head, but doesn't want anyone to know."

The initiative in question here is almost certainly the Andromeda Initiative, which lays the basis for the game's plot. In the game, the Initiative sends 20,000 citizens to a planet in the Andromeda galaxy in the hope of establishing a new home world. The game's protagonists, the Ryders, are the twin children of Alex Ryder, a Pathfinder, or leader of one of these exoduses.

Based on the "skinny, frog-like" description, it looks like Nanjiani will be voicing a Salarian character. The Salarian are one of the four key races from the Citadel who are moving to repopulate Andromeda planets, so it makes sense that one would be integral to this initiative. Likewise, the Salarians in the original Mass Effect trilogy were characteristically unemotional and pragmatic, which could produce the character's duplicitousness. Nanjiani is a gifted comedian who's been on the rise ever since he landed the role of Dinesh in HBO's nerd comedy Silicon Valley. Nanjiani also lent his voice to season 2 of Telltale's The Walking Dead game, and he and his wife recently released a critically acclaimed film, The Big Sick, at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

Kumail Nanjiani's deadpan humor makes him perfect for a Salarian role in the upcoming game, and we're excited to see if that is in fact the brand of "space frog" he'll be voicing. Luckily, fans only have to wait until late March to finally get their hands on the game.

Mass Effect: Andromeda debuts March 21st, 2017, and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
