The return of the undead is coming to Marvel's comic book universe, and now fans know exactly who's to blame. Although once the biting and moaning begins to take over the world in Marvel Zombies: Respawn, it may not matter, anyway.

The return of the Marvel Zombies to comics was revealed with almost no details offered, just a single image of Wolverine, Deadpool, and Captain America as screaming zombies (by artist InHyuk Lee) and a tagline promising that the dead would walk again. Now the publisher has revealed the actual series--Marvel Zombies: Respawn--along with the talent bringing this nightmare to life, and the famous cosmic figure who actually plunges the world of the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and every other Marvel property into a living Hell.

It's possible that many comic fans have never actually thought to ask the question: if Galactus is famous for 'eating' entire worlds… what would Zombie Galactus eat? That's right, we may not know what horrors the full series will have in store for fans, but the official synopsis for Marvel Zombies: Respawn at least explains how the entire bloody affair begins. The plot may sound more like a science fiction thriller than a superhero tale, but that's par for the course with the Marvel Zombies legacy. Interestingly, the original Marvel Zombies involved the cosmic being Galactus being overtaken by the zombie infection, before all seemed to end as well as could be hoped (passing on his powers to the heroes inhabiting the infected Earth). With an apparently dormant zombie Galactus "appearing" in the solar system, and the title Marvel Zombies: Respawn, there is room for fans to speculate on just how closely this new series will connect to the original.

The more the better, most fans will say, considering the success of the original series from writer Robert Kirkman and artist Leonard Kirk. This time around the living nightmare will be entrusted to Phillip Kennedy Johnson instead, doing their best to see if Marvel's zombie apocalypse can result in as big of a sales hit as DCeased from the competition. Fans will get to decide how the two series compare when it officially begins.

Marvel Zombies: Respawn begins in October 2019.
