Details about the highly anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite have been rolling out over the past few days. The fourth iteration in the series looks to feature a number of noteworthy changes, not the least of which involve a stronger focus on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether or not this means that series mainstays like Wolverine and Doctor Doom (whose film rights lie with 20th Century Fox) will be sitting out completely is still unclear, but the first trailer's strong focus on Iron Man and Captain Marvel is telling. Iron Man is clearly the darling of the MCU and the cosmic captain is getting her own film in 2019, having already billed Brie Larson (Room) in the starring role.

Either way, fans have a lot to look forward to in a game that lets players harness the power of Infinity Stones to battle their opponents. Marvel's Executive Producer of Entertainment, Mike Jones has also promised that Infinite will be "a game that honors the heritage of the series and combines Marvel’s unique brand of storytelling with Capcom’s world-class gameplay."

Marvel recently revealed an extended gameplay trailer (see above), which confirms two new characters in the game - Marvel's star-spangled hero, Captain America and the princess succubus Morrigan from Capcom's Darkstalkers. Considering Cap is a prominent member of the MCU, and both characters have been present in every iteration of Marvel vs. Capcom since it's inception, neither reveals are particularly surprising. All the same, it's nice to see the two present in all of their new-gen glory.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite - Captain America and Morrigan

An additional detail worth pointing out - the fight in the gameplay trailer appears to be happening along the rainbow bridge of Asgard... except oddly a modern cityscape lines the background and the heroes are fighting on a city crosswalk. Odds are, the plot of Infinite involves universes colliding, cramming famous Marvel locations against ones from Capcom. This plot would align with Marvel comics' recent "Secret Wars" event, which combined multiple Marvel realities in a battle royale for existence. The other possibility? Dr. Wily stole Thor's hometown and used it to decorate his backyard.
