Marvel Updates: Branagh’s Thor, & Iron Man 2 Script Is Awesome
Jul 1, 2009 by Rob KeyesCome up to speed with the latest news on Marvel’s upcoming superhero movies.

Thor is arguably the toughest character and film to sell out of the upcoming slate of movies in development at Marvel Studios, but it is the one I’m most excited for.
Besides my interest in the character, what really grabs my interest is the man in charge: Kenneth Branagh.
The multi-talented Shakespearian actor/writer/director is an unbeatable choice to helm Thor and bring him to the silver screen and better yet, he loves the interconnectivity between the Marvel character, the universe and what they are attempting to do with the film.
There’s been nothing but praise for the man coming from Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada and president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and now we have even more good stuff to say about the man.
In one of their meetings the other week, Branagh met with Quesada, Feige and others about the movie and he gave a performance to enact the film for those who were there. Quesada described it in his column as one of his best “highlights” working for Marvel:
“It was performance art… Kevin would give us the establishment of the shot and the situation: ‘Here we are. We’re in (take your pick of location). And here’s Odin and he’s coming up to (pick a character.)’ And then Kenneth would come in and give you the color commentary. ‘Odin has an air of majesty to him’ and he’d act out the Odin part or the Thor part. So we sat there and literally got a three-hour one-man show from Kenneth Branagh. It was fantastic.”
Quesada then went on to explain how Branagh is heavily focused on character development in the film and how that’s what will really stand out in his movie:
“It’s not just big hammers and capes and things like that. It’s about what makes the character tick. There’s definitely a reason for Thor, a reason for him being and a very deep family relationship and story in the movie that I think is going to be very cool.”
Adding to this, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis spoke with Newsarama about Branagh’s Thor, the Iron Man 2 script and why fans of the comics should be excited for the upcoming movies…
Firstly, Bendis talked about what he’s currently writing for the Comics publisher (check out the Newsarama interview linked below if you’re interested) then went into his involvement with the films and how much fun it is. For the Iron Man fans out there, he’s said he read the script for it “30 times now” and that it’s very good.

let us be the judge of the scripts.
wanted to let you guys know ever since you put up that new background on the page I can only get on the site maybe 40% of the time when I try. especially on my mobile phone, loads up halfway and just stops.
I’m looking forward to Iron Man 2 (who isn’t?) and Captain America.
I’m not particulary fond of Kenneth Branagh, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. Can I just say, the logo’s of Thor and The Avengers look awful.
Captain America better be awesome.
I like what I’m hearing but I hope Branaugh doesn’t sacrifice action for more character development. I would like a good mixture of the two.

@I hate mike bay,
What kind of mobile are you using.
If its a blackberry, turn off Jave script and reboot it (disconnect the battery for 5 seconds). That should help.
Brian Blessed
Latest rumour from inside source is that Jessica Biel is in talks about joining the cast of Thor
Reportedly if cast, Biel will play the love interest of Thor. Which would either by
I’m of course most excited for the Thor movie.
And that excitement is steadily raising with each successive article. Thanks for taking the time to report this, Rob!
Well, except for that one where it said the Shakespeare dialogue wouldn’t be in the movie, but meh. I’m over that now.
Im particularly excited about thor and to see who they cast for captain america and the villian their going to revolve the story around i personally hope its the red skull which most likley it will be. However, im not to confident in the avengers movie although it will be awesome to see all the characters come into one movie to ultimatley take on the hulk as they made it seem with the last hulk movie and iron man 1 my biggest concern is the film itself may turn out to be cheesy in order to do such a movie properly firstly you need to have a good story or reason to bring them together, you need to give each character the proper screen time and you need to have a huge budget to make the film presentable and appealing to compete with these other titles. I hope they can pull together a big load of cash to make the avengers successful cause if they pull that off i wouldnt mind seeing a civil war movie perhaps?…

I must admit that “Thor” has gone from a movie I wasn’t that interested in to one I’m extremely excited to see. Branagh is the reason. Choosing a director like him just tells you that this isn’t a film that will just be cool special effects and pointless action sequences. This film will have real character development to it, and that really does excite me.
“Captain America” is a film I’m also excited about though, but I’m waiting to see more before I decide if I’m worried about the quality of the film. I’m more invested in Captain America (Steve Rogers), one of my favorite superheroes. I can’t relax about that film as easily as I can with Thor.
can’t wait to c ironman II and Thor
I WANNA SEE WHAT THEY DO FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA TOO!–MARK VALLEY FOR CAP!
i am Stoked 4 all the Films hope’in that they Get Asgaurd Right in the Film, to look like it dose in the Comics.
also ive heard very Minimal news on Marvel other film that was shut down back in 2005 i think.
and that is “IRON FIST”
the only new newa i herd on it is that marvel studios officialy announced that Ray Park will Play Danny Rand.
i hope its True.
if any one has any info on the Iron Fist film, please speak up.
The only reason I am interested at all in “Thor” is because of Kenneth Braunagh. He is consistent and knows every detail. I’ve never read the comic, but in Braunagh’s hands I feel like I won’t have too.
@Leggy (or anyone else who can answer)
What happened again at the end of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and IronMan that would suggest the Avengers is about fighting the Hulk? (I don’t remember)
correct me if i’m wrong, but i guess may be it was when general ross talkin with Tony Stark and the idea of “assembling up the team again” at the end of the movie
again.. correct me if i’m wrong..
There was no “Hulk” reference in (Iron Man). The Generals concerns were vague in the scene with Stark.
Hulk was a Hero in the end… Great fraken film, one of the best Comic Superhero films ever (IMO), Norton hit a grand slam with that film!!!
Ang Lee can go direct his lame films. You suck Lee.
AVENGERS WONT BE FIGHTING THE HULK…THE WAY THEY “HERO-ED” HIM OUT, I THINK WE’LL BE SEEING A SEMI CONTROLLED HULK..THE LAST PART OF INCREDIBLE HULK, NORTON LOOKED TO HAVE BEEN MEDITATING TO THE POINT OF HARNESSING THE HULK POWER,HE WAS SMILING WHEN HE STARED CHANGING
@790
What, you didn’t like Brokeback Hulk?
That’s what I always refer to it as, haha.
No I didn’t. Horrrible film.
Ang Lee’s overated and should get out of my life. I mean movies.
Yah, it was pretty horrible. Hulk changing size everytime the camera looked away and looked back? Come on. Hulk crying? Say it ain’t so! Hulk dogs? Oh no! lol
I just wanted to use the opportunity to say Brokeback Hulk, lol.
Ang Lee is definitely overrated. He’s a director that TRIES to be artsy. So he goes for whatever he thinks has shock value or an artsy feel. Gay cowboys, crying hulks, borderline pornos… No thanks…
I thought both Hulks sucked…the first had better acting and a better story and the second had better action and Norton pulled off teh Hulk well…I think that the Hulk is just like teh Punisher…it will always be a miss
I for one am REALLY looking forward to Captain America…if done correctly I think it has the potential to really do well. I feel that they need to cast a great well known actor to play cap, like they did in Iron Man with Downy.
I think that Iron man 2 will also be really good and deliver us another great comic movie.
As far as Thor, I oculdnt care less…serioulsy not that popular of a character and he’s a God which is way too supernatural for me. I will try and keep an open mind and watch teh film and give it an honest chance though ( ididnt tink iron man was goin to be good and I was wrong on that)
The avengers will BOMB, no convincing me otherwise on this one
The second hulk did not suck.It was what a Hulk movie should be.
Chek it out!!!!!!!!!

Natalie Portman is Jane Foster!!!
please no more hulk movies,2 movies & a t.v. show and none of them were interesting. everyone/anyone who was involved in making hulk on t.v. and in the movies have failed miserably. this is supposed to be an easy character to do and each time it was done each time the movie or t.v. show turned out to be a huge awful disappointment.attention all of you directors and producers, do not attempt any more hulk movies because you don’t know what your doing.start reading hulk comics and pick your villians from them and remember folks there supposed to be supervillians not puny humans.
