Throughout the run of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel has used the show as a way to market the rest of the MCU. They teased a sequence from Captain America: The Winter Soldier in season 1, and planned to debut the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron before it leaked. And now it looks as though Marvel and ABC are at it again with the series' upcoming season 4 fall finale, 'The Laws of Inferno Dynamics'.

The 2016 Marvel Studios slate has been completed, but the studio plans to release three new films in  2017. With that many projects in waiting, there are plenty of synergistic marketing opportunities on the horizon. The studio recently debuted the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, which is already breaking viewing records. But the House of Ideas has more to deliver, apparently, as a surprise teaser will reportedly follow the midseason finale for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The news comes courtesy of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Natalia Cordova-Buckley, who plays Yo-Yo on the show. The actor took to Twitter to inform viewers to continue watching until the very end for a "surprise teaser." Early speculation had it that this could be the first teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Cordova-Buckley quashed those theories. However, she did confirm that the teaser in question is Marvel related, which opens up a host of possibilities.

Absolutely love working w/ my girl @ChloeBennet4!

Make sure to watch the surprise teaser @marvel has after the finale.#AgentsofSHIELD https://t.co/C54Gd32gww— Natalia Cordova (@YOSOYCORDOVA) December 5, 2016

The teaser could simply be one for just the back half of season 4. Considering what a significant role Ghost Rider has played in the season so far, a reveal of his continued involvement could be in the works. At the same time, though, the tease may very well be related to one of ABC's upcoming series, such as a very early concept tease of The Inhumans. The network also has the long-in-development half-hour comedy series Damage Control on the docket, or perhaps it is one of ABC's other mystery series.

Marvel also has several Netflix series coming out in 2017, with Iron Fist premiering in March. While it would seem odd advertising a series for a streaming service on network television, it wouldn't be outside the reach of Disney to help make that happen. Then again, with some Thor: Ragnarok promo art recently finding its way online, perhaps the teaser is related to one of Marvel's upcoming theatrical releases, albeit one that isn't due for almost a year.

Then again, Marvel could truly surprise everyone and do something different, but we won't have to wait long as the reveal is coming tomorrow night.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 continues Tuesday, December 6 with ‘The Laws of Inferno Dynamics’ at 10pm on ABC.
