The first trailer for Marvel and Hulu’s Runaways has arrived. Hulu is currently marketing their upcoming lineup of various projects and with that has come some much deserved attention on Runaways. This will mark their first venture in the superhero genre and the service has selected Marvel to be their partner. In doing so, they’ve chosen a beloved team of youngsters to make their name known.
Hulu just announced that it has ordered Marvel’s Runaways to series, after having previously only being picked up for the pilot episode. With the Runaways pilot having wrapped production some months ago, it was plausible that Hulu could share the first bit of footage from the pilot today too – and it turns out, they did just that.
Hulu debuted a short teaser for Runaways during their Upfronts presentation. While it has not yet been officially released online, Jack Rico recorded a version from the crowd (see the video above). Though it may be short, it achieves its goal of introducing the general audience to the Runaways. You can also check out the main Runaways squad from the TV show together, below:

As expected with a first teaser, the majority of the footage is used introducing Gregg Sulkin (Chase Stein), Virginia Gardner (Karolina Dean), Rhenzy Feliz (Alex Wilder), Ariela Barer (Gert Yorkes), Lyrica Okano (Nico Minoru), and Allegra Acosta (Molly Hernandez) in their new Marvel roles. Outside of the looks at these characters, the events that unfold follow closely to the start of the 2003 comic run by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona. In this arc, the young, soon-to-be heroes stumble upon their parents doing unspeakable acts as The Pride, forcing them to runaway from their homes; hence the team name.
With glimpses of The Pride’s rituals being shown, the power sets of the heroes are also not fully explored here either. There is a glimpse of Karolina’s powers of alien origin, but it is unclear if they will keep that background or find a new way to explain her powers. There also appears to be a shot of Molly’s eyes glowing, possibly indicating the use of her powers, but she will also likely undergo some origin changes as she is a mutant originally in the comics.
Once more of Runways begins filming and Hulu has more content at its disposal, we should be getting a trailer that better showcases the Runaways in action. Fans are anxiously awaiting the Staff of One to manifest out of Nico, see Chase dawn his gloves, and/or have Gert call upon her friendly-but-deadly dinosaur, Old Lace. However, some of those elements may have been too strange for a teaser, so keeping it simple to start could be the better strategy.
Runaways is expected to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2018.
