Marvel Studios is certainly wasting no time capitalizing on the genre-defining success of The Avengers. Marvel began hyping its upcoming “Phase Two” line of movies even before the release of the big team-up film, going so far as to announce a massive DVD/Blu-Ray box set intended to collect all six of its “Phase One” installments. Coming packaged in a sleek silver briefcase, the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled set ran into a snag when a German suitcase manufacturer filed suit that the set was too similar to one of its products.

Fortunately for any ultra-fans who are willing to drop the $219 necessary to own it, this monster collection is once again scheduled for release. Set to hit shelves in April of next year, “Phase One” now carries an extra bonus in its depths – a teaser for the “Phase Two” run of Marvel Universe movies.

EW reports that the legal troubles delaying the Marvel Cinematic Universe disc set have more or less unraveled. In the interim of the set’s delay, Marvel Studios has apparently added a tantalizing new feature to the set’s already prodigious bonus materials: Teaser footage, concept art, and Easter eggs for the “Phase Two” of Marvel Studios. Apparently, this will be one of the first sources of teaser material for films such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Of course, this massive set will contain all six of the Marvel Studios films from the “Phase One” line (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers). It will come packaged with a bevy of bonus materials both on and off the discs. These will include many deleted scenes, outtakes, alternate shots, concept art, and a heavy packet of S.H.I.E.L.D. files (wherein Marvel has hinted that many clues about upcoming plot points can be found).

While the promise of glimpses of Marvel Studios’ future is tempting, the price tag of the Marvel Cinematic Universe set will likely stay the hand of all but the most devoted fans. The set reminds one of the insanely over-detailed Blade Runner: The Final Cut set released some years back, which came similarly packaged in a silver briefcase. While the extras on that DVD set were impressive, many also felt like so much knick-knack chaff. No doubt many a collector will be proud to add the Marvel suitcase to their shelves, but it’s unlikely that fans who are just desperate for a look at “Phase Two” will spend the necessary cash.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Avengers Assembled will be available April 2, 2013.
