Marvel plans to reveal the identity of the other Miles Morales, a plot point from the 2012 series Spider-Men. At the end of the first Spider-Men miniseries, Peter returned from an adventure in the Ultimate universe, he looked up the younger hero to see who he was in his own universe -- and was shocked to see who it was. Unfortunately, that's where the first Spider-Men story left off. Spider-Men II is written by Brian Michael Bendis, and illustrated by Sara Pichelli and Justin Ponsor.

Given that this new limited series once again teams Peter and Miles together, Marvel is obviously dangling the identity reveal to grab fans' attention. And it seems to be working. A press release from Marvel teased the new tale, with Bendis giving some insight into how significant Miles is:

"New York, NY—June 16, 2017 — THIS IS IT, TRUE BELIEVERS! The moment five years in the making is finally here! The first time Peter Parker and Miles Morales met ended with a question — WHO IS THE MILES MORALES OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE?! Now that the Miles you know and love is with Peter in the Marvel Universe, you’re finally going to get that answer to who the OTHER Miles Morales is! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Brian Michael Bendis (Defenders, Spider-Man) and Sara Pichelli (Spider-Man) bring you the next heart-stopping adventure for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales with Marvel Comics’ SPIDER-MEN II!

Speaking with Marvel.com, Bendis spoke towards Peter and Miles both holding onto the Spider-Man title in the Marvel Universe, “One of my favorite things about a shared universe, is that on top of what you’re writing for the characters, other things are happening to the characters, like now Miles is in the new universe, and now he’s a part of the Champions, and half of [Civil War II] was people fighting over his head, so things have changed in his life, and his relationship to the Marvel Universe is completely different than it was in the first series and that’s exciting.”

Miles Morales aka Spider-Man

The mystery of the other Miles Morales is of the most interesting storylines Bendis has created. Given that Miles played a huge role in the recent Civil War II, it's no surprise that Marvel is continuing to establish his importance in the 616 universe.

Miles is so popular in fact, that an animated movie featuring the other Spider-Man is set to premiere on December 21, 2018. It's still a while away but voice casting has already begun, including Miles himself. The film is being written by Phil Lord while his frequent collaborator Chris Miller will be co-producing the film. Whether the animated adventure will include Peter Parker is yet to be announced, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the classic hero appear at some point, though Miles seems to be the focus, so a Spider-Men type story is likely out of the question.

So far, there's no actual tease to who the other wall-crawler will turn out to be, but given Peter's initial reaction it's fair to say that it'll be surprising. For those of you wondering how this follow-up series can take place after the events of Secret Wars -- all the different universes were combined into one. Meaning that this crossover is a lot easier to do.

Spider-Men II #1 will swing into comic shops on July 12.
