A lot of major comic book news items have popped up this week but not all of them make the big headlines during the frenzy. To keep you in the know, we’ve gathered some missed items to share with you. In today’s Marvel movie news wrap- up, we’ll be looking at Iron Man 2 undergoing some re-shoots; Marvel suing to keep their key characters; Thor adds another another cast member as it sets to begin production within the next few weeks and last but not least, Tobey Maguire chimes in on the potential delays for Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man 4

If you’ve been following the buzz about possible production issues and the delay of Spider-Man 4 this week over what might be a dispute between Sony and director Sam Raimi over the villains of the film, then you know that this film could be in trouble.

Adding to that the fact Marvel has moved the release date of Thor up to the same day on the opening weekend of May and summer, 2011 and it’s easy to guess that Spider-Man 4 must be pushed back. Marvel will not have two of their films competing on the same weekend.

Tobey Maguire spoke about the news in a live webcast with the LA Times for his new movie Brothers and came off very professional and positive about the situation with Spider-Man 4 and the process of it all.

“Like anything, it’s a process… We’re just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We’re just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward.”

“Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page… It’s all happening right now. It’s all sort of coming together. It’s very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we’ve done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution.”

Iron Man 2

A user at The Super Hero Hype! Boards posted some information about the re-shoots currently underway for the production of Screen Rant’s #1 Most Anticipated Film of 2010, Iron Man 2.

The posts reveal that re-shoots are taking place in North Hollywood, California today.  As for what scenes are being filmed, it is described as an “upscale Senate Congressional meeting,” with “pant suits and business attire.”

In a follow-up post, Redd (the poster) says the following:

Iron Man 2 will be filming on January 12th. From Mateo St, 6th St. & 7th Street.

They are going to be there all day, starting at 7:00am until 10pm.

These are just standard re-shoots to get the final shots in for post production and from the description you can probably guess where they may from within the film if you’ve seen the Iron Man 2 trailer.

Another member has been added to the impressive cast of Thor in the form of Adriana Barraza, the Oscar-nominated actress from Babel. We know only that the talented Barraza will be playing one of the humans on Earth.

In other Thor news, principal photography is about to begin on my most anticipated Marvel Studios film and we’ve been hearing nothing but great things about the cast, the costumes and the epic sets they’ve constructed to bring Asgard to life.

Adding to what we’ve already heard, Iron Man and Iron Man 2 directed Jon Favreau tweeted today that he got to walk around the set of Kenneth Branagh’s production of Thor and was highly impressed.

“A walked through some of the Thor sets that are being built. They’re pretty amazing.”

What I would give to walk around this set…

Marvel is suing the heirs to Jack Kirby’s estate over rights to key Marvel characters such as the X-Men, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. Kirby of course created these characters alongside Stan Lee and his heirs are attempting to get the rights to said characters reverted back to their estate.

Don’t worry, the characters won’t go anywhere and this is just a money thing.

On the film side of things, things are looking great for Marvel Studios and their upcoming projects although we can’t say the same for Sony. We hope next to start getting some major news for The First Avenger: Captain America.

Thor and Spider-Man 4 are current both scheduled for May 5, 2011 release but count on Peter Parker coming later in the year. Iron Man 2 kicks off this summer with a May 7, 2010 release.
