A lot of major comic book news items have popped up this week but not all of them make the big headlines during the frenzy. To keep you in the know, we’ve gathered some missed items to share with you. In today’s Marvel movie news wrap- up, we’ll be looking at Iron Man 2 undergoing some re-shoots; Marvel suing to keep their key characters; Thor adds another another cast member as it sets to begin production within the next few weeks and last but not least, Tobey Maguire chimes in on the potential delays for Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man 4

If you’ve been following the buzz about possible production issues and the delay of Spider-Man 4 this week over what might be a dispute between Sony and director Sam Raimi over the villains of the film, then you know that this film could be in trouble.

Adding to that the fact Marvel has moved the release date of Thor up to the same day on the opening weekend of May and summer, 2011 and it’s easy to guess that Spider-Man 4 must be pushed back. Marvel will not have two of their films competing on the same weekend.

Tobey Maguire spoke about the news in a live webcast with the LA Times for his new movie Brothers and came off very professional and positive about the situation with Spider-Man 4 and the process of it all.

“Like anything, it’s a process… We’re just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We’re just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward.”

“Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page… It’s all happening right now. It’s all sort of coming together. It’s very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we’ve done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution.”

Iron Man 2

A user at The Super Hero Hype! Boards posted some information about the re-shoots currently underway for the production of Screen Rant’s #1 Most Anticipated Film of 2010, Iron Man 2.

The posts reveal that re-shoots are taking place in North Hollywood, California today.  As for what scenes are being filmed, it is described as an “upscale Senate Congressional meeting,” with “pant suits and business attire.”

In a follow-up post, Redd (the poster) says the following:

Iron Man 2 will be filming on January 12th. From Mateo St, 6th St. & 7th Street.

They are going to be there all day, starting at 7:00am until 10pm.

These are just standard re-shoots to get the final shots in for post production and from the description you can probably guess where they may from within the film if you’ve seen the Iron Man 2 trailer.

Another member has been added to the impressive cast of Thor in the form of Adriana Barraza, the Oscar-nominated actress from Babel. We know only that the talented Barraza will be playing one of the humans on Earth.

In other Thor news, principal photography is about to begin on my most anticipated Marvel Studios film and we’ve been hearing nothing but great things about the cast, the costumes and the epic sets they’ve constructed to bring Asgard to life.

Adding to what we’ve already heard, Iron Man and Iron Man 2 directed Jon Favreau tweeted today that he got to walk around the set of Kenneth Branagh’s production of Thor and was highly impressed.

“A walked through some of the Thor sets that are being built. They’re pretty amazing.”

What I would give to walk around this set…

Marvel is suing the heirs to Jack Kirby’s estate over rights to key Marvel characters such as the X-Men, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. Kirby of course created these characters alongside Stan Lee and his heirs are attempting to get the rights to said characters reverted back to their estate.

Don’t worry, the characters won’t go anywhere and this is just a money thing.

On the film side of things, things are looking great for Marvel Studios and their upcoming projects although we can’t say the same for Sony. We hope next to start getting some major news for The First Avenger: Captain America.

Thor and Spider-Man 4 are current both scheduled for May 5, 2011 release but count on Peter Parker coming later in the year. Iron Man 2 kicks off this summer with a May 7, 2010 release.

  1. They can take all the time they want on Spidey, as long as they get it right.

  2. If Favreau says the Thor sets are amazing then that’s exactly what they are. The man knows what he’s talking about. Thor will rock!

  3. Marvel stock is on the rise. Any way to buy in?

  4. Me too, the slow start up on getting news for Cap is getting irritating. I hope they cast a good actor for him, but even though he’s not an American, I would like to see Sam Worthington get the role. But we’ll see how well he does in Clash of the Titans. So far, he hasn’t been a disappointment. =)

  5. jep, sam definatly got the looks and the talent.

But then you all know how patriotic some of you americans can be ;)

  6. Sam worthington is good and all. But whoever portrays has to be American. Can’t have a Brit portray a character with America in the title. The best actor to portray captain america is Chris pine. Great actor, has the right looks and is American. He’s perfect IMO.

  7. they need to use the lizard in spiderman 4.

  8. I dont understand why there are soo many money desputes over the Marvel Character rights and movies..I just never thought that Sony was going to be soo greedy.. This all started happening once they saw the expansion of these Marvel Movies since the time when X-Men 1 came out then Spiderman came out the Popularity of Marvel movies and characters started to grow then Spiderman 2 came out and Fantastic Four and it grew even more massively because these movies where all big hits to most Marvel fans.. Now all the sudden its about Sony: “Lets see, Hum? What characters can we use in the films that will make more money?” Why do you guys think Disney Bought Marvel because Marvel is becoming big why do you guys think there are deputes about the rights of the Marvel Characters Like Spiderman, Thor, Iron Man etc..? why do you guys think there is a despute going on between Sam Raimi and Sony on what Villians should appear in the film? this is getting out of hand too much dont you guys think so?

  9. I just read an article that had multiple updates. It said Tobey and the studio is trying to get the script right and could still release the movie at the scheduled date but it’s not likely.

Also, the director of the incredible hulk and clash of the titans, letterier, wants to direct the Avengers.

And I also read that RDJ may not be in the avengers depending on how things go with the second and third Iron Man movies.

  10. Oh and I forgot one – Chuck” star Ryan McPartlin wants to be “Captain America”

  11. ive alwase been a rather large Thor Fan, but are thay really going to have the Rainbow Bridge to Asguard ????
idk , i have faith in marvel to stay true to the comics, wonder what cameo’s we might see in thor ?

  12. And another one lol – marvel started a lawsuit to get back the rights to Spiderman, Wolverine and the Fantastic Four. The process has begun!

If I’m late on these things I apologize.

  13. @M-Cat…

McPartlin would be perfect for Cap. Right age, right build and the right look. He’s not a bad actor either. I like him as Cap ALOT more than Sam Worthington.

  14. @johnny Yes Sam is an aussie, but imo as long as the actor can portray him well I don’t mind.

  15. This is great news!! I want Marvel to get all of their characters back. Fox and Sony don’t know what the hell they’re doing. To be honest I think that the Kirby family is in on it and acting like they want the characters in their hands but will actually be getting paid $erious Ca$h to help get the rights back in Marvel’s hands. I said it before, Ryan Mcpartlin is PERFECT as Captain America!!! I can see him having great chemistry with Robert Downey Jr. and the rest. Sam Worthington won’t, he’ll be out performed. And writing IS not everything an actor can be given great material but do horribly and an actor(like RDJ) can be given horrible material but still do great making the material look great. Preferably I’d like to have both, great material and a great actor to perform it.

  16. @ josh k…. oh i had no idea hes aussie. well he is great at what he does. no doubt. seems like we have no choice cuz hes so great. i would really like an american to play him. but if it has to be a foreigner i would want worthington, ONLY if he has love for the character and is familiar with CA.
