Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer-director James Gunn got sold on the 4DX theatrical format thanks to his editor Fred Raskin, so he checked it out for the first film came and it became a must for the sequel. It's also going to be used for Avengers: Infinity War of which Gunn is helping executive produce (the Guardians meet The Avengers in that one!).

We shared a short video last week with Gunn talking about how he helped craft GOTG 2 in the 4DX format with CJ 4DPLEX, the world’s leading 4D cinema company, and now we have an exclusive on the full 4DX interview where he emphasizes that this is the "best" format to see the films in.

4DX is an immersive 4D movie experience with motion seats that make it feel like you’re soaring through the galaxy with Peter Quill and the gang – in addition to bubbles, snow, wind and more. Byung Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, explains how the action and visual effects heavy films work best in the format and it's something Marvel Studios has embraced on their biggest projects including The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3:

“Superhero films maximize the abilities of 4DX’s immersive motion technology and we're excited for fans to have the opportunity to view the film in a format that transcends the traditional theatre viewing experience. We're also very confident that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will follow in the footsteps of previously successful Marvel Super Hero films in 4DX.”

Marvel's two latest releases, Doctor Strange and Captain America: Civil War, also used 4DX and are top five performers for CJ 4DPLEX. As for how popular the format is, 4DX is rapidly expanding and continues to open two auditoriums a week, around the world. The first Guardians of the Galaxy saw an overall occupancy rate of 85 percent in the U.S. and Vol. 2 will be available in 369 4DX auditoriums, compared to 2014’s 100 auditoriums. James Gunn:

“We've crafted something marvelous for 4DX theatres all over the world. I think it's one of the best ways you can possibly see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."
