Yesterday we reported that S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson from Iron Man would be returning for Iron Man 2 and making an appearance in Thor which began production last week. The character, along with Nick Fury, will no doubt be participating in each film to tie them all together, leading up to The Avengers where we’ll finally see our favorite Marvel heroes fight together as a team.

There’s been plenty of missed Marvel movie tidbits in recent days, overshadowed by news about Thor getting started and Spider-Man 4 getting ended, soon to get re-started again.

Today, we’ll take a look at a young unknown auditioning for Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s favorite aspect of Black Widow in Iron Man 2, Thor’s Tom Hiddleston and his chicken cravings, and a little Fin Fang Foom action for Jon Favreau.

Johnny Pacar auditions for Captain America

Relative unknown young actor Johnny Pacar read for the role of Steve Rogers, the lead character in The First Avenger: Captain America as revealed by a recent tweet by him.

“Just read for Captain America. what a role to get. if only.”

If in indeed, Marvel Studios and director Joe Johnston had Pacar in to audition for the lead role, this tells us that rumors of a big A-List name such as Leonardo Dicaprio or Brad Pitt are not the direction Marvel is going for.

Like Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, Captain America may be played by a fresh young face in the business, with a long term multi-picture contract to ensure sequels, spin-offs and other gues appearances in the many films in development and the Disney-owned studio.

Thor’s Mischievous Brother, Loki

tom hiddleston in thor movie Marvel Movie Updates: Iron Man 2, Thor & Captain AmericaEnglish-born Tom Hiddleston who we know is playing Loki in Thor wasn’t originally aiming for that role. The 28 year old actor had an in with director Kenneth Branagh, working alongside him in the Brit series Wallander.

When he was still one of the candidates for the title role in Thor, he had to follow a strict eating regiment to bulk up. He ate chicken and chicken salad for every meal with the occasional egg. Basically, he went on a protein frenzy but it was partly all for naught as after a month and a half of this, he finally got the call from Thor producers claiming they want him in the movie. Except, they wanted him for the role of Loki, the God of Mischief instead of Thor.

“I guess it was a relief to go back to my natural body shape.”

No kidding. If you saw some photos of Tom, he is not a thick guy and I honestly could never see him playing Thor. Loki on the other hand, I’m sold on so good on him and Kenneth Branagh’s selection.

Trivia: As a child, Hiddleston played the Marvel Superpower Top Trumps card game.

  1. Thanks for the update, Rob.

I'm glad to see Marvel isn't going the superstar route for Captain America, and with the plans for “The Avengers” in mind, that really makes sense. If they have any hopes of affording Robert Downey Jr and other big names for that film (and still have money left over for all the required sfx to make it look good), then they gotta pick some young, relatively unknown guys for the other heroes. Still curious to see if they'll manage to get Edward Norton back as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and if they don't, then it will be interesting to see who Marvel gets for the part.

I'm very excited about the “Captain America” film. Was one of my favorite comics as a kid. Suppose that's the one where I'm most likely to be disappointed, but we'll see.

  2. Fing Fang Foom looks wicked if that's how they go with it.

I like the idea of an unknown for Cap. I think they're on the right track.

  3. Not trying to nit-pick, but I thought Thor got moved up to Spiderman's May 5th date? Was that just speculation given SM's hiccup?

  4. i wonder how thor is going to make an appearance in IM2, i bet it would have something to do with magic vs science

  5. Nice! I can always count on Rob to keep me up-to-date on Marvel movie news.

  6. :) Glad to be of service

  7. You're absolutely right Chiguy and I'm the one who reported it 😐

I grabbed the release dates while checking over my previous articles for some historical links. It's fixed now – thanks for pointing that out!

  8. They need to change Fing Fang Foom's name to just FOOOOM!!!(the sound of his fire)

  9. I don't see it happening. Thor won't be out yet so there will be no origin at that time. The only way we could see Thor in IM2, I think, is in his early years before he becomes a superhero I guess.

  10. I'll just call him FOOOM!!! Should be thought as some sort of Robot at first and then surprise the audience later showing that it isn't. He definitely needs to have something to do with the Ten Rings. As he should be extraterrestrial as well as the rings. Mandarin controlling FOOOM!! with the rings is the way to go.

  11. No worries, just looking forward to the film and can't wait, :)

From all of the reports on the movie I've got a feeling this will be comparable to The Dark Knight.

  12. Heh as Scarlet said in an interview – if she had a Russian accent, then she wouldn't be a very good spy, now would she? I tend to agree :p

  13. That Valley guy from that tv series “Human Target” I thought would be a good pick for Steve Rodgers. What do you think?

  14. He has the look and isn't a bad actor at all. He would be a good choice.

  17. The Avengers big three! Nuff said!!!!!
