I tend to prefer DC movies & cartoons over Marvel movies & cartoons – just so you know.

I recently watched the first couple episodes of the Young Justice and the new Avengers cartoon. While the Avengers cartoon looks pretty decent, Young Justice was amazing. I’ll likely continue to watch both but… you kinda get the idea which one I’m looking forward to seeing more of.

Actually, let me sum it up in this way – direct to dvd cartoon movies DC has done much better in my opinion, it’s somewhat a toss-up in live action movies (both have hit or misses but Marvel seems to have more misses, on the other hand I’ve enjoyed the two Iron Man movies more than the best DC has put out, though reboot Batman more than Spidey), and finally on half hour cartoons I tend to be more a DC fan – I enjoyed Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men evolution, much of the Spiderman series, but… that’s about it – DC has the best with Batman TAS and Superman TAS and then the Justice League toons were fantastic and several others I won’t name were pretty good.

I have suffered Spider-man and his amazing friends. I’m a die hard Iron Man fan since he got the Silver Centurion armor in issue 200. The new Iron Man toon is junk, nice to look at junk, but junk. This new Avengers looks ok. I’m more concerned about story. Spectacular Spider-man is really good. The art was a turn off at first, but they did good by the characters. This Avengers look alot better than the last attempt, with a sucky line up and everyone wearing some sort of battle armor. So far I’m happy.

This article is biased. DC is always superior? REALLY? Then what about the Krypto cartoon? Superboy and the Legion? Unlimited wasn’t great. And while Evolution and pretty much every Spidey cartoon has sucked, te 90′s X-Men, Wolverine and the X-men and most of their movies (Especially Thor vs Hulk… gee, faithful to the comics… wotta concept!!) are gold.

Anyone talking about the alleged superiority of DC’s cartoons needs to pick up that Green Lantern DVD. Not only was the animation crap, the story was beyond bad, deviating from the comics every chance it got.

I’m not saying Marvel is godly… it’s had its hits and misses. and DC has had PLENTY of flops.

i grew up watching the 90s versions of many Marvel tv shows, and i can easily say that the 90s cartoons as of right now are better then the new versions of the shows that have come out recently. I mean seriously the 90s version of spiderman was gold, and even enjoyed the crossover that happened with the xmen series as well. Now I’m not putting down the new shows because its great that a new generation of kids are being introduced to such classic characters. Even the new superhero squad show as weird and corny as it is is still better then the crappy avengers that got released in the 90s i think i saw one episode of that garbage but in my opinion marvel has always been superior to DC in comic quality and n general story telling

dc’s cartoons have always been a step above. batman tas, superman, batman beyond, i loved jl and unlimited. i like how unlimited brought out little known heroes from the dc universe.
marvel has a rep for making terrible cartoons the fantastic 4 and iron man cartoons from the 90′s were garbage and low budget. they don’t seem to recognize a good thing and keep it goin’ (spider-man unlimited). they’ve come out with some pretty good stuff as of late, spectacular spider-man, iron man armored adventures, x-men evo and wolverine and the x-men.

i can’t believe some people are saying bad things about the dc cartoons, dc has been knocking the animation out of the park since it came out with batman TAS, not just art wise but with in depth story. the last good series marvel had on before now was x-men evolution. look how marvel “f”ed up the avengers cartoon, the avengers without cap, thor or iron man come on. marvel has a history of messing up way back with the fantastic four and herbie the robot. how do you license away your character so you can’t use him in your own shows? and spectacular spiderman’s art style is based on Sean cheeks galloways art style. a young iron man because you don’t want to show the alcoholic womanizing tony stark? uh tony was not always an alcoholic and what do you think Bruce Wayne’s cover is but a womanizing billionaire.

Well for starters I can’t believe the person that wrote this said dc cartoons were superior and cited friggin justice league unlimited??! I couldn’t stand that crap, the first two seasons of justice league were legendary but UNLIMITED??!
Also ppl the 90′s x-men wasn’t all that great (trust me i have all 5 seasons and ive been watching them over..) it was good but i’ve also seen 12 episodes of the new “wolverine and the x-men” and let me tell you it is gold! the animation is slightly anime-ish but nonetheless it is awesome.
one more thing.. i agree with the fact that they shoulda stuck with the ultimate avengers animation style…guess they didnt want to confuse ppl with the two different storylines. i was wondering since they did an ultimate avengers that perhaps they should do an ultimate x-men…
i dont think marvel’s oversaturating the market though i would like to see more from dc too.
look out for the “hulk vs” dropping in january

Vic: We’re thinking of the same cartoon but that’s not entirely correct. Spidey was actually around 16 or 17 years old, the same age he was when he started being Spider-Man in the original comics. The whole “tween” thing was due to an unfortunate typo in an early press release where he was described as being in “junior high school” (which would have made him 12 or 13 years old) when it should have read “a junior IN high school” (which would have ade him 16 or 17 years old). Despite it being an obvious error, the rumor that Peter was in junior high in the series spread from there and a lot of people missed out on a great series due to a misconception.

Fin Fang Foom. That is one of several mythical monsters the Avengers have battled. Plus, anytime they deal in the Supernatural(Dormamu, Loki, Ulik) you could count these as mythical to your average unbelieving mortal. As far as the animation style, I definitely think it should have been done like either the ultimates movies, or even like the 90′s version X-men and Spider-man, cuz those ruled. Heck, I’d even settle for some more Bruce Timm animation. But as sononsj said, Spectacular Spider-man was very similar in style(maybe that means he’ll guest star?) and that show was pretty, well, balling. By far one of the best cartoons of the past decade, despite its playskool look. I am much more worried about crappy storylines, because, as Marvel is famous for with comic cartoons(the original avengers toon) they water down storylines to appeal to the younger audience. Here’s an idea: use the same storylines from the comics that got the fans interested anyways. Geez.

Vic: did you catch Spectacular Spider-Man back when it was on? It was one of the best animated series’ in years and I had very few complaints about it. It also used the overly-exaggerated animation style, and it worked really well as we got the most fluid and dynamic Spider-Man ever (including previous shows and movies).

As much as the animation style sucks, personally I wouldnt mind so much if they made up for it by bringing us great storylines. Cross polinate these shows. Have Spidey and Wolvie show up in the Avengers. Have Iron Man cross paths with Doctor Doom. I know they could find a way to write it and have it make sense.
Ive watched plenty of tv shows and movies that I didnt like stylistically, but they ended up being great because of the story. But maybe thats just me.
