[Warning: This article contains Iron Man 3 SPOILERS.]

-

You can definitely say this for Iron Man 3: it caused a stir. In a twist that still has comic book fans talking, the Mandarin turned out to be nothing more than a drug-addled, out-of-work actor in a cheap costume, who had no idea of the atrocities being carried out in his name. Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) may not have helped to mastermind Aldrich Killian's plan, but he certainly gets to reap the benefits in All Hail the King, a new Marvel One-Shot which finds him living a life of celebrity amongst the convicts of Seagate Prison.

Those who were outraged by the portrayal of the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 might find some resolution in All Hail the King. The short stars Scoot McNairy (Argo) as a documentary filmmaker conducting interviews with Trevor for a feature about the Extremis plot, who begins to suspect that The Ten Rings terrorist group is very real and is very angry at Slattery for carelessly co-opting their culture and history.

Marvel has debuted the first clip from All Hail the King, featuring a voiceover from McNairy's character, Jackson Norris. Keep an eye out for a rather familiar-looking tattoo on the back of Trevor's neck.

The events of Iron Man 3 might be in the past, but it could also contain teases for the future of the Marvel cinematic universe, or even for the upcoming Marvel TV shows on Netflix. Writer and director Drew Pearce has said that "by the end of the short, there are definitely a lot of exciting other places that are brought up in it that could then go in the Marvel universe," and we speculated that Trevor Slattery could find himself in Seagate Prison at the same time as Luke Cage.

After almost a full year, All Hail the King will return to one of the most controversial plot twists in the Marvel movie franchise so far, but how exactly will Pearce handle the showdown between Trevor and The Ten Rings? Will a real version of the Mandarin show up? Which other previously established characters will make an appearance? We'll have to wait until next month to find out.
