Ahsoka claimed only to have known one other being like Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5 - but why didn't she mention Yaddle, a former member of the Jedi Council in the prequel era? The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5, "The Jedi" finally debuted Rosario Dawson as the live-action Ahsoka Tano, but unfortunately Ahsoka refused to train Baby Yoda, who she revealed is named Grogu.
And yet, one comment from Ahsoka has led to a degree of controversy. Discussing Baby Yoda's origins, Ahsoka told Din Djarin she had "only known one other being like this. A wise Jedi Master named Yoda." This raised eyebrows with fans of the prequel trilogy, who knew there had been one another of Yoda's race, Yaddle. According to the Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, Yaddle was younger than Yoda, born around 509 years before the Battle of Yavin. She had a long and distinguished career as a Jedi Master, serving on the Council alongside several of her old Padawans. Yaddle withdrew from active service shortly after the death of Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and her seat was taken by Shaak Ti. Ahsoka's failure to mention Yaddle in addition to Yoda has led to a campaign on social media, demanding #JusticeForYaddle.
The timing of Yaddle's retirement from the Council probably explains why Ahsoka didn't mention her. Ahsoka would have been only 4 years old when Yaddle retired, and she did not become a Padawan until a decade later, shortly after Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. It is entirely possible Ahsoka never met Yaddle; even if she heard of her, she has had 29 years since becoming a Padawan to forget her. Characters are not omniscient, and it is entirely understandable Ahsoka would forget a Jedi Master she had only ever heard mention of, when she has lived a hectic life, making memories of her own.
The calls for "Justice for Yaddle" may actually be premature, in any case. It is entirely possible Baby Yoda actually has some sort of connection with Yaddle; for one thing, Yoda and Yaddle's species do not appear to be hermaphroditic, which raises the possibility Grogu is actually Yaddle's son. Certainly Ahsoka was able to confirm Grogu was originally raised at the Jedi Temple. It is entirely possible Yaddle actually retired in order to focus on training her child.
For now, though, it is for the best that Ahsoka did not mention Yaddle. It would not make sense for the Jedi Master to have made much of an impression on her, given it is unlikely the two ever crossed paths and Ahsoka has never claimed to be blessed with a photographic memory. Yaddle's fans need to acknowledge that Ahsoka's knowledge is limited, and that there are far more natural and organic ways to incorporate Yaddle into the story of The Mandalorian.
