[UPDATE: We've been contacted by IMAX and informed that the information regarding IMAX 3D was from an unofficial source, and although the information did appear briefly on their website, there was "an inputting error" by whoever updated their website. The page has been removed.]
With the 2012 blockbuster season soon coming to an end, it’s never too early to begin looking forward to the blockbuster season of 2013.
Some of the big boys headlining next years blockbuster season include Wolverine 2 and Star Trek 2 - but it’s the reboot of one of the most popular franchises in superhero history that has comic book and film fans alike hoping. With The Avengers setting the bar at an all-time high earlier this year, and Christopher Nolan ready to put his version of Batman to bed, someone from the DC Universe will have to answer the call – can Superman be that hero?
Judge for yourself, after reading some new plot details of the forthcoming Man of Steel.
Courtesy of the official IMAX website:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.
The IMAX release of Man of Steel will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
While the plot may sound exactly like that of the first Christopher Reeve Superman, you should keep in mind that Snyder is heading in a slightly different direction with his version, as he will have General Zod, played by Michael Shannon of Boardwalk Empire fame, be the main villain – as opposed to long time Superman nemesis Lex Luthor. Man of Steel will also star Amy Adams (The Muppets) as Lois Lane.

The news of Man of Steel being released in IMAX 3D should leave fans of Superman giddy as it will give us all a unique film quality we have never seen when it comes to Mr. Kent. The flying sequences should look unworldly in IMAX 3D – perhaps even Kryptonian?
It’s not too early to begin looking toward the 2013 blockbuster season – and with this news, maybe you can start looking toward it with x-ray vision – in IMAX 3D.
Man of Steel hits theaters everywhere on June 14th 2013.

New plot details? Really? The only thing I’ve learned from this article (The heading), is that Super Man will be in 3D, biggg surprise. Jeez, what a waste of time and energy
There are new plot details:
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Sure, they aren’t “groundbreaking spoilers”, but did the writer lie when he said “new plot details”? I don’t think so seeing as these are in fact new plot details
“Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet”
Do you know what that suggests to me? That Krypton wasn’t destroyed…
And just announced by Legendary Pictures, they will be showing at Comic Con……. Artwork from the Man Of Steel. No footage.
wasnt it a year before its set release we got a teaser trailer for tdkr
Thats the booth not the panel. And yesterday a teaser for MOS and OZ the great were given classifications. Teaser is 1:27 long.

Jason, Vic, maybe you guys should update this. New word that apparently its not IMAX 3D.
I really hope they don’t mess this movie up with an intrusion of another franchise to try and set up the Justice League movie. That would really take away something for me. In my opinion, Superman is a stand alone hero and always will be.
I will go out on a limb here and say that this will be the maturing point for Snyder. With the release of Superman 2013, I am fully confident that he will join the ranks of Nolan and Jackson. Great visuals will be a no brainer, great cast, and one hell of a good scriptwriting team.
I am pretty sure I am going to self combust sometimes during 2013 with the impending arrivals of this, Startrek 2, and the hobbit conclusion.
I mean Superman 2014 . .
I need to spend more time proofreading . .
Screenrant, I will send you a $100 to give us the availability to post edit our comments . .
Not kidding or being a jerk, but Superman Returns is the only movie I fell asleep watching (about 10 minutes before it ended). I loved the airplane save, it’s one of the coolest superhero moments I can remember, but other than that moment the movie was for me, easily forgettable.
Routh did ok but he is no charmer like Reeves. Not even close.
The Kevin Spacey calm psycho shtick got old for me years before he did Lex. I always like Hackman but even his Lex didnt really wasnt very special, I guess it’s the real estate deals that make me yawn, I dunno.
Im hoping for the best with Snyder’s direction and the cast’s efforts pay off big time for them. I do like 300 and Watchmen and if he brings some of that to bear in this movie I think it might be ok. All of the pieces and players sound positive – even though it’s still a reboot.
After this one, I hope other stories (fresh ones) come soon after. Im definitely not interested in any more reboots or new takes on superheroes Ive already seen countless times in movies and cartoons. Im not sold on the bigger budget means better movie either. Slick FX and physics that dont feel real or look too smooth arent really better in my opinion.
Crosses fingers and waiting it out till next year like most everyone else here.
@MDPerkins I didn’t say mormons are stupid or insult them in any way. I was trying to understand the censoring.
Reportedly IMAX made an error and the film
while being converted to digital IMAX DMR
it will in fact not be converted to 3D.
IMAX has removed the Man Of Steel
announcement from their website.
No 3D is fine with me.
Agreed, I hate 3D. I’m ready tor this fad to be over.
…they had me at Amy Adams. YOWZA!!!
same here. Amy Adams is HOT!
Sorry, but I’m not giddy for anything with “remastered” and “IMAX” in the description – especially because it means that it will probably be targeted at the new digital short change LieMAX/IMIN screens.
Give me original 70mm IMAX footage like TDKR; don’t try to trick me into paying more for your cinematic snake oil.
The plot details just remind me of Smallville. So DC is trying to go towards the troubled hero thing too?
It seems to me more like Clark will be confused, not troubled. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to consider using his abilities for personal gain. He’ll wonder what is going on and what he should do. THEN, he’ll conclude that should help others and can do so in truly amazing and unique ways.
That is how I read it…
@ M
If i haven’t seen shows like Lois & Clark:TNAOS, Superman:TAS, & Smallville that had episodes with scenios simliar to Snyder’s film, id might of been more excited about MOS. Though Specical FX etc. have improved since Superman 2, can’t help be reluctant to not think it could turn out to be like Superman Returns turned out to be too much like the original Superman film minus Superman having the kid.
why are my comments being screened and blocked for spamming?
Sometimes my comments also get blocked as spam. Usually if I try again in a few hours it eventually posts the message.
As for the blocking, I’m guessing it’s because of certain words that you use in the comment. If it says “Awaiting Moderation”, just leave your comment be… if you’re not insulting people (which I don’t think you were), it should appear in a few hours as well.
