The slow march toward Man of Steel's major marketing push continues - today with some new images from the film featuring a character we've seen very little of up to this point: Faora, a Kryptonian character played by German actress Antje Traue (Pandorum). Faora is actually a variation on the character of Ursa (Sarah Douglas) - a.k.a. General Zod's lieutenant in the 1980 film, Superman II. The character has also had several variations in the comics, leaving some question as to how director Zack Snyder plans to use her in MoS.

In addition to today's pictures  featuring Traue in full Kryptonian armor, there's one snapshot that's especially curious, featuring (what we assumed would once again be) Zod's lieutenant seemingly getting cozy with Superman (Henry Cavill) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams).

Is that a Kryptonian mind-meld we're seeing in action? And what could cause Lois, Superman, and one of Zod's minions to have such intimate contact?

If I had to guess, one situation to call for such a moment would be Kal-El's attempt to show his fellow Kryptonians the example of a human worth caring for - as Supes cares for Lois. We've heard rumors about just how deep the Superman/Lois connection could run in this film - and the first trailer definitely ended with some iconic imagery of our favorite superhero alien bonding with our favorite feisty girl reporter  - so... maybe.  Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine as to how this all fits into the über-secretive script that Dark Knight architects Chris Nolan, Jon Nolan and David S. Goyer put together.

'Man of Steel' General Zod armor

Traue no doubt wears the armor better than Michael Shannon's Zod (featured above); but even when covered in goop and grime during most of Pandorum she still looked gorgeous, so this is just par for the course.

With Iron Man 3 about to explode into theaters, expect the weeks after to feature more and more (and more) Man of Steel marketing materials - including a new trailer that hopefully shows us what Faora, Zod and Superman himself all look like in action.
