[UPDATE: Scroll Below for a Message From General Zod!]

Man of Steel has been quietly gathering steam in the shadow of Marvel’s Iron Man 3 promotional blitz – but that doesn’t mean that Superman won’t be taking over summer in a big way, once IM3 has had its (sure to be lucrative) run.

Despite releasing a full-length trailer, there is still quite a bit of mystery surrounding Zack Snyder’s modern take on the Superman origin story. We know what Dark Knight Trilogy writers Chris and Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer have planned on the character side of things (Clark Kent’s struggle with identity and purpose before becoming Superman), but the super-powered action has only been hinted at so far.

EW is going to be featuring Man of Steel in its upcoming issue, which means that there are some pretty sweet new photos being released by Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures – including shots of new Superman Henry Cavill (Immortals) in high-speed flight (above), and the long-teased armor that will be worn by the new General Zod, Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire).

The costumes in the film are definitely elaborate (and the earring that Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White is rocking is certainly perplexing), but recent revelations from Snyder and Co. about the altered elements of Superman’s story and powers are definitely making hardcore fans wary. Until a new, action-driven trailer closes the deal, Man of Steel mania will remain lukewarm.

Man of Steel will be in theaters on June 14, 2013.

  1. I want to see this movie like right now! I do have a couple questions on my mind though. I am grateful that Snyder/Nolan haven’t given away any major spoilers in the first 2 trailers like Nolan did in The Dark Knight Rises. First off, how exactly is Krypton destroyed in this version? Or, is it even destroyed at all? In this new video Zod says that he wants one of “his” citizens “back”, what does he mean by “back” and what is he implying by referring to Superman as “his” citizen? That kind of leads to another question, where exactly has Zod been while Superman was growing up on Earth? Also, how did he find out Superman was on Earth? There is a brief glimpse of a spacecraft arriving at the Kent farm in the trailer which everyone safely assumes belongs to Zod. If that is the case, then one could also assume that he wasn’t imprisoned in the phantom zone because where exactly would he get a ship if he was imprisoned and if Krypton was destroyed? That brings about another question, where exactly does Zod want to take Superman back to? If Krypton was destroyed and he wasn’t imprisoned than he has obviously defected to some other planet. I’m speculating that he is working with or for someone else (Brainiac or Darkseid anyone?) I didn’t see any shots of Superman as his reporter persona in the first trailer, did he figure out that glasses and a bad hair cut is not a good disguise? How’s he going to pull it off this time? I’m hoping that DC took notes on Marvel movies and that there will be some easter eggs or cameos in this movie. As far as crossover movies go, I think a Batman/Superman team-up would be more feasible before doing a Justice League movie. Last of all, I really hope Shannon does not utter that ridiculous and campy phrase that of course does not need mentioned. Just my thoughts.
