We’re just under a week away from the highly anticipated return of AMC’s hit series Mad Men, but since series creator Matthew Weiner plays things so close to the chest, we’ve yet to see a scrap of new footage from the sixth season.
Thankfully, AMC has at least released some photos from the two-hour season premiere. While this is technically being regarded as two episodes by the network, the entire premiere is going by the title “The Doorway.”
For those with a keen eye, you’ll see that there’s quite a lot of Christmas stuff lying around. Therefore, it seems we’ll be jumping ahead in time more than a few months since the fifth season finale took place sometime in the spring of 1967.
In addition, it looks like Don (Jon Hamm) and Meagan (Jessica Paré) head to Hawaii. Reportedly, Don is the best man in a soldier’s wedding, and many seem to think it might be a friend from his former life as Dick Whitman. Unfortunately, it’s hard to know these details since the premiere synopsis only gives us this:
Don spearheads a new campaign; Roger gets unsettling news; Betty takes in a houseguest.
We don’t really see any evidence of any of those plot points, but it appears Don won’t be gone from the agency for the entirety of the Christmas holiday as he appears to have returned to the office with decorations still hanging around.
As the season finale last year seemed to indicate, Don might be on the lookout for more happiness as he walked away from the fairytale set occupied by his wife, embarking on her new acting career (which we’ll also learn more about in the premiere). The teaser trailers (comprised of footage from old episodes), also hint at Don’s uncertain future.
Whatever happens, we can’t wait to have this series back on the air.
