Gene and Majel RoddenberryIt was only days ago that an announcement was made that Majel Roddenberry, widow of Gene, who of course created Star Trek would provide the voice for the computers on the Enterprise in the new movie. And just now comes news that she died today.

She was 76 and died at home of leukemia with her son Eugene at her side.

Mrs. Roddenberry is best know for playing nurse Christine Chapel on the original Star Trek series. In addition to that role she played the voice of the computer on every Star Trek series as well as playing Lwaxana Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Gene Roddenberry died in 1991 and she carried the torch for him since then both in regards to Star Trek as well as being involved in unrelated Sci-Fi shows Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict.

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry was a stable of the Star Trek universe and she will be missed – we will get to hear her one last time in the new Star Trek movie opening next May.

  1. She will be missed. I saw her at a Star Trek convention about 10 years ago and she couldn’t have been more fun or gracious.

  2. RIP, Mrs. Star Trek! Man, what a bad year for celebrity deaths…

    heath

  3. I’m shattered. As a friend of the family, I can’t begin to tell you what she meant in the decades that I’ve known her.

Rest lightly beside your man Majel.

  4. Terrible news, but she lived a long and prosperous life and definitely will never be forgotten.

I’m happy she is a part of the next Star Trek chapter as well, it keeps it authentic as the franchise moves forward in a new direction.

  5. Strange how a woman I’ve never met who played only bit parts in a show I loved long ago could have such an effect on me with her passing.

It’s good to hear that she was able to participate in the new film.

I only wish they could have included all of the originals some how.

  6. In an interview of an original cast member (I don’t recall who) it was hinted that Gene created the roll of Nurse Chapel For his beloved Majel. Thank heavens he did, can you imagine Star Trek without her?

Someday when voice interface becomes as common as the mouse, someone may be able to synthesize her voice for all computers. I don’t think a computer that talks will sound normal without Majel’s voice answering my questions.

RIP Majel Roddenberry. We will miss you.

  7. RIP Majel. This is indeed a sad day.

  8. I’m so sad. What a loss. Majel was a force behind Gene Roddenberry. With her gone, it’s like the founders of Star Trek are gone. It’s crushing to me. It really is…goodbye Majel.

  9. Gene’s girlfriend at the time, Majel, was cast as First Officer in ‘The Cage’, but back then, NBC grumbled and she was later cast as a nurse, then in subsequent episodes as a Doctor.

  10. I am not a person who uses a GPS unit but if they had one with Majels’ voice guiding me through the streets of California I would have bought one in a hartbeat. Rest In Peace Majel

  11. (End Transmission)

I am glad we will get to hear her voice one more time.
my condolonces to her friends and family

  13. Oh WOW, I just now heard about this! The daughter of the Fifth House, holder of the sacred Chalice of Reese, heir to the holy Rings of Betazed; Picard will miss being chased.

    “Hailing frequenzies closed”
“May your death give you the peace you did not have in life” A Vulcan prayer

  14. Majel will live on also in her role as Ambassador Lwaxana Troi (Deanna Troi’s Betazoid mother) – on Star Trek:TNG and Star Trek:DS9.

    R.I.P. Majel!

  15. Majel Roddenberry the greatest person rip
