I always thought that the Magneto movie sounded kinda lame. I hope this is more of a X-Men: Origins. Then again, why not just do X-Men: The New Class and give the youngsters a chance to shine.

Either way, please no more Wolvie.

Here, here! I agree! I do love Wolverine… but only when he gets to play with more visually exciting characters. I’ll be there on opening day for his film… but I’d much rather see Gambit or Iceman do their thing.

As for Magneto, I’d probably prefer an X-Men origin too… but, as I say, call it that.

I can easily see how this idea could work as a Magneto story. After all, according the the X-Men movie continuity, Magneto helped found the team originally, but had a different set of goals. I can easily see this movie dealing with that, showing his disenchantment with the direction of the X-Men. I’d think there are plenty of opportunities to develop Magneto as a character there and tell a good story in the process.

I’m very much looking forward to this one now.

Totally… I agree that Magneto has a strong role in the creation of the school… but the argument remains: why call the spin off ‘Magneto’?

If the simple act of concentrating on a particular group member’s disenchantment is enough to make a film ABOUT that character, then the ‘X-Men’ films so far should have been called ‘Wolverine’, ‘W2: Wolverine Unites’ and ‘Wolverine: The Last Stand’.

If they’re telling the Magneto story effectively then they have to deal with Charles Xavier and the origins of the X-Men. If I recall correctly he only became a rogue, hostile element, and only started calling himself ‘Magneto’ once he and Xavier decided they could not reconcile their different ideologies. I always figured that a Magneto story would deal with these kinds of plot points, since one of the most interesting aspects of his history in the X-Men universe is his friendship with Xavier.

Maybe they’ll do an original X-Men movie? I’d love that! I personally prefer the original X-men by Stan and Jack over the Chris Claremont relaunch version from 1975. Maybe this will be my chance to see them on the big screen after all! It could be like X-Men First Class or something!

A Magneto movie is a really, really, crappy idea. Let’s start make’n movies about villains once we start scrap’n the bottom of the Marvel barrel, shall we? Give me Cap any day!

Not to keep repeating the same point… but, Max… you’re dead right. I just don’t see how that’s ‘Magneto’. Rather, it’s ‘X-Men: Origins’ with Magneto as the rogue element/villain.

*Sigh*

Is the subtle point I’m making really THAT subtle or is the title of a film just not that important to people?

I guess it depends on whether it actually focuses on Magneto, with the group’s origins simply as the background of what’s going on at the time, or whether they focus on the origins of the X-Men and simply have Magneto there.

One works as a movie about Magneto, the other doesn’t.

Well it actualy excites me to hear the idea of a movie about Magneto’s past…only because i’m of Romani heritage and Magneto’s wife was also Romani…mabey they’ll finaly make a movie that explains that we were also killed in German War camps, and for once put a possitive look on “Gypsies”. I admit, simply having a character in a movie who is Romani that isn’t a dancer, prostitute or a thief may not change our stereotypes…but i’ll take what i can get.
