If you are not yet familiar with the work of Stephen 'tWitch' Boss, you will be after seeing his mad dancing skills (and the kinetic inspiration behind his nickname) on full display in Magic Mike XXL. The sequel picks up three years after the original film and finds Magic Mike and the Kings of Tampa on one last ride/pilgrimage to the annual stripper convention in Myrtle Beach. The guys meet Boss' character Malik during a stop at a special exotic entertainment palace owned by Rome (Jada Pinkett Smith) and things escalate from there.

Screen Rant recently sat down with Boss to discuss how his work on TV's So You Think You Can Dance and real life friendship with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum led to his role in XXL,  when we'll start seeing him on this season of SYTYCD and why he'll never again put himself through any kind of body waxing.

How has this experience been for you?

The whole experience has been a whirlwind of things. From the beginning it was all excitement and I didn't know what do expect. This is a level of something I've never done before. I've done some Step Up films, So You Think You Can Dance and the Ellen Show, all of those things have been progressive and this was just the logical/illogical next best step.

I know you and Mr. and Mrs. Tatum are friends. Did you meet Jenna first or Channing first?

I met them at the same time at Teen Choice Awards awhile back but I'm glad you asked that because when Jenna came and did a guest judge spot on So You Think You Can Dance, she kind of pulled me aside and said, "We're doing a sequel to Magic Mike and they have an idea for a part for you, your name is being tossed around for a part" and a little bit of time went by and we had a meeting setup with Channing and the director, Gregory Jacobs and they explained the role of Malik, who was a dancer under Jada's establishment and asked me if I would be interested.

When you're approached by fans and watching their reactions online, what was their reaction to your getting cast in this?

It was a mix because there's a lot of people that support me that have never seen me in this light whatsoever, so it's been a slow transition. The great thing is that everybody is proud. It's going to be a shock to the system to see good ol' tWitch bearing it all and doing that.

I remember also that you bravely went through body waxing of certain parts, that was a one-time-only deal?

One-time-only. I'm just going to shave. And trust me, I had one of the best people [do the waxing] but no matter how good they are it still hurts. So I'm an advocate for if women never want to wax again, I support that.

It does get better after the first time. The first one is the worst.

I don't know. I don't know if it ever gets better.

Was anything left on the cutting room floor? Any part of your dance with Channing?

No not that one. In Rome's club I did I think three takes and they were all different because I was freestylin'. And the first time I did it I was so excited that I didn't stop when I was supposed to, I just danced to the entire song. And then little conversations that didn't make it and such.

Is there any difference in how much primping the guys had to do on this one versus other sets and projects you've worked on?

The plan for this movie was to set that off and balance it out so given the territory yeah, it did that. A lot of the time with Jada and Amber [Heard], they had a lot of time spent on them but you also got to see there sexiness in a very different way. Everything that they were wearing was not really that revealing. They brought along a different sexiness with their power and their mindset as opposed to what they were wearing. And while they are gorgeous women, the turn-on was different, as opposed to just visual. We left all the visual turn-ons to the fellas.

So as far as what's next for you, you're a big part of So You Think You Can Dance this season, yes?

Yes. The live shows start in July, I'll be at each live show and will also drop in on rehearsals. And as far as acting goes, I'm studying, taking classes, doing the work.
