Actress Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission Impossible III) has been cast in the upcoming English language adaptation of a Japanese video game called King of Fighters. She will join cast members Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Ray Park (who’s playing Snake Eyes in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie), Will Yun lee (Elektra, Die Another Day) and David Leitch (who is also the film’s action choreographer).
The film will be directed by Gordon Chan (director of such films as 2000 AD and Beast Cops) and written by first time writer Rita Augustine.
No word as of yet which character Maggie will be playing, suggestions have been made that she may play the character of May Lee but nothing has been confirmed. I’m sure it will be one of the leads though, or at the very least an important character.

I have to confess I’d never even heard of the video game until today and therefore have never played it. Looking at some of the character artwork and gameplay screenshots it looks quite similar to most other beat ‘em ups that hail from Japan; muscly men with weird hair and women with minimal clothing beating the crap out of each other. Which is Japan’s video game bread and butter.
History has shown us that the majority of video game adaptations just plain suck. Street Fighter (the live action one, mind you, the animated second film was actually pretty damn good), Resident Evil (which is admittedly a guilty pleasure but nevertheless bad), Silent Hill, Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat… the list goes on and on. King of Fighters looks like it has potential to turn out like Street Fighter, which is never a good thing to say out loud.
As always give every project a fair go but I just can’t see this one being any good. Thoughts?

KING OF FIGHTERS MOVIE.
Maggie Q is doing the King Of Fighters movie which it is a English language film,it’s a good thing Tekken should have done the same but I was not happy when Dwight Little took over to change the Tekken series into a near future action flick,and I know some anime flicks are going into action movies with Akira and Ninja Scroll to be produce by Leo DiCaprio Appian Way,Threshold Entertainmaent wil co-produce Ninja Scroll with Appian Way.
Another video game movie Onimusha will be a Japanese/English action porduce by Samuel Hadida and Japans Gaga Communications and Micott and Basara Studios and it stars Takeshi Kaneshiro as Samanosuke Akechi,Aya Yeto as Kaede and Shin Koyamada might have role playing other samurai warriors and the plot and story will be follow to the Onimusha Warlords game.

Is Onimusha really ever going to happen? Pre-production got stopped just days before the shoot was due earlier this year. Money problems and Takeshi Kaneshiro problems. Did it finally shoot?
I reckon May Lee’s way too hip-hop to be played by Maggie Q, who looks more suited to play the sultry Mai Shirenui, who should get a substantial role in the movie (judging from Hollywood’s light sexploitation tendencies).
As for any substantial movie adaptations, I’m really hoping that the actors and actresses are selected to resemble their characters’ looks and physique. That said, I’m looking forward to finding out which child-actresses (or actresses they decide look teenage enough) play Athena and May Lee.
oh great another video game adaptation. Maggie Q being added to the cast list does not improve the movie’s chances of being any good at all. Even if you want to fool boys to go see this thing for the hot chicks, there are many more attractive Asian actresses than her out there.
