In a shocking turn of events, “Macho Man” Randy Savage (born Randall Mario Poffo) - one of wrestling’s most iconic performer – has passed way at the age of 58.

Married for just over one year, Savage and his wife, Lynn Payne, found themselves in a horrific car accident this morning when Savage suffered a heart attack while driving. After losing control of the his car, it’s been reported that Savage then veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic, and eventually hit a tree.

Medical responders quickly transported Savage to the Largo Medical center in Florida, where Savage ultimately died from his injuries. Savage’s wife, Lynn Payne, survived the accident with minor injuries and was transported to a different hospital to be treated.

According to the report, both Savage and Payne were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

For anyone that grew up during the '80s & '90s, the name “Macho Man” Randy Savage certainly brings back memories of seeing the eccentrically dressed wrestler “cutting a promo” on Hulk Hogan or snapping into a Slim Jim.

While the WWE is now very much a household name with live television shows, PPV specials and even a theatrical production company, the realm of televised wrestling had just begun during Savage’s tenure at the then WWF. With televised wrestling quickly taking off amongst the younger generation, Randy Savage quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most iconic wrestlers ever to grace the ring. Macho Man's fame was so lasting that even in the 2000s he was making an impression,  - most notably with his cameo performance Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie, in which he had a scene-stealing cameo as "Bonesaw," the wrestler that a newly-powered Peter Parker battles in a cage match prior to becoming Spider-Man. Macho Man continued resurfacing on the pop-culture landscape throughout the oughties, lending his voice to popular cartoons like King of the Hill and Family Guy.

Accompanied by the always beautiful Miss Elizabeth (Savage’s first wife, who died in 2003 of an apparent drug overdose) “Macho Man’s” storyline often found him feuding with the likes of Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Ric Flair and The Ultimate Warrior. However, the most memorable of his feuds was with the legendary Hulk Hogan.

Always vocal of his on-screen and off-screen love/hate relationship with Hogan, Savage’s feud with “The Real American” served to not only skyrocket them both to fame on television, but to also forever mark their spots as legends in wrestling.
