Rogue Pictures has released a set of five MacGruber clips to whet your appetite for the Saturday Night Live inspired-comedy starring Will Forte. If you’re still skeptical, as many of us were, maybe the clips will help sate your worries.

The plot isn’t particularly robust (though early reviews credit the film’s stupidity as a well-excuted maneuver) following Ex-special operative MacGruber who is “called back into action to take down his archenemy, Dieter Von Cunth, who’s in possession of a nuclear warhead and bent on destroying Washington, D.C.”

In addition to Forte, MacGruber stars Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, and Val Kilmer.

Let’s face it, the MacGruber source material wasn’t particularly deep – which lead many of us to question whether a MacGruber film was a good idea.

I mean, MacGruber seemed like a nice guy but each skit ended with the title character getting blown-up (along with his friends). We didn’t know MacGruber, aside from several minutes of frantic and disorganized attempts at channeling his less-capable MacGyver skills – not to mention SNL film adaptations are notorious for being lackluster, or flat-out terrible, endeavors.

However, after seeing the trailer (and now more clips) I’m willing to trust Forte.

While MacGruber, himself, may be short on source material, Forte and the writing team had plenty of MacGyver episodes, as well as other 80s action-dramas, to spoof.

Early reviews of the film have been mostly positive and, with a May 21st release, we don’t have to wait much longer.

What do you think of the MacGruber clips? Do you think MacGruber might break the recent SNL-film curse?

MacGruber explodes into theaters on May 21st.

  1. I like the part where they did that thing.

    • Agreed, that’s the best thing about it.

I’m finally finding this movie to be looking good, which is kinda the point of the wonders of promoting by posting clips from movies.

  2. May 25th? what happened to the 21st? The 25th is a Tuesday… did this just become a direct to DVD release? lol

    • Woops. Good catch. May 21st is correct – unless we go by the date on the poster in the header. Haha.

      • This movie does seem to have a little case of Schizophrenia when it comes to release dates doesn’t it? lol

  3. I think mcgruber is going to be hilarious. It will break the curse (hopefully)!

  4. All take this over the A team remake.
