Get used to that title, you are going to be seeing a lot more of it.
M. Night Shyamalan has signed a deal with Media Rights Capital to form The Night Chronicles, a financing and production partnership that aims to produce one thriller a year for the next three years.
Shyamalan will not direct any of these films, but he will produce them and be responsible for the stories and ideas.
So what can we expect from this new deal?
Two things.
Thrillers with twist endings and plenty of money for Shyamalan.

Media Rights’ honcho Tory Metzger said:
“These films will be based on ideas in keeping with what has made Night so successful, and has made him unique to his time.”
No firm plans have been set yet, but M.Night has two possible projects that may get the ball rolling.
The most interesting aspect of this new partnership is the amount of control that Shyamalan will get. His recent deal on The Happening gave him 25% of the film (by that I mean controlling rights of the negative) and 50% of the film’s revenue (DVD and television etc) and this new pact is expected to be equally rewarding,
The filmmaker is quoted as saying:
“Filmmakers have always been my inspiration. Working with the next wave of innovative filmmakers will teach me many things that I can bring to my own writing/directing and give my stories the opportunity to be brought to the screen in a stunning way.”
It would appear that Shyamlan is going down the George Lucas route of film-making, where he becomes more of an ideas man and talent facilitator than a director - but I could be wrong.
This is very interesting news, I know that M.Night has a lot of people out there who hate him (it’s a strong word, but I feel it’s accurate) but I feel that he’s a great director, who often gets fantastic performances from his actors (Bruce Willis and Mel Gibson in particular).
At the very least these films should be mildly diverting. At their best they could be of the same quality of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.

I loved unbreakable. It was truly one of the most underrated films in recent times.
Never really got round to the sixth sense though.
THe only thing The Happening impressed upon me was the sudden need to puke and ask for my money back.
but his movies get worse and worse every time? So does this mean we have 3 awful movies to look forward to?
I sure hope not. But in all seriousness, I kinda look forward to seeing if he make one more great flick…just one…and he’s got three chances, hehe
I suppose it was just a matter of time. Personally, I love his movies more than I hate them (except Lady in the Water). He seems like a modern Hitchcock to me the way he relies more on suspense and twist than gore for his scares as well as the cinematography of his films. And many of Hitch’s films didn’t get great reviews at the time, either. I for one am very interested to see what comes out of this project.

M. Night had one suspensful twist that he’s failed to replicate after multiple tries.
I enjoyed Unbreakable too, but it wasn’t really suspenseful so I exclude it from my preceding remark. The rest of his films (post 6th Sense) all blew.
Gonna go with Panda on this one. The Village was one of the worst films I have ever seen, and I have not bothered seeing anymore of his films since.
Isn’t it funny how Shyamalan rhymes with snooze alarm…..
I think he’d be better off being a producer/guest director of an anthology TV series along the lines of Thriller, or to use a more recent example, Masters of Horror but in the thriller genre.
I think Mr. MNS is a talented director with different views and ideas alike common people.His direction is great and touchy.He is a master of suspense. But i would hope a better show from him than the HAPPENING .I think people has wrong views about LADY IN THE WATER.I like the courage shown in making such a movie,even risking a complete failure.
