The Netflix side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is only just getting started. Following the success of Daredevil, Marvel is next bringing Jessica Jones to the popular streaming service later this year. And not only is the series introducing us to Ms. Jones (of Marvel’s Alias comics, played by Breaking Bad‘s Krysten Ritter), but it will also introduce audiences to Mike Colter’s Luke Cage – before his show debuts in 2016.

Having Colter first appear as Cage on Jessica Jones is evidence of Marvel’s desire to weave a universe between their Netflix series that is just as tightly connected as their big screen, Avengers counterpart. Granted, Daredevil may not have served as a jumping point for Jessica Jones, but Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple will further tie one show with the other when she appears on Luke Cage. And going forward this will likely become the trend, with characters from one Marvel/Netflix show bleeding into the other, before all are united in the forthcoming Defenders mini-series.

Serving as only further proof that in the future Marvel will spread characters throughout their growing Netflix slate is this scoop from Latino ReviewIF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW MORE THAN THAT, STOP READING NOW!!!  SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

LR got their hands on a set photo from Luke Cage that shows David Tennant as Dr. Killgrave a.k.a. The Purple Man filming alongside Colter. Tennant’s villain is set to debut on Jessica Jones, but there hadn’t yet been any word on the character continuing on Luke Cage. Obviously, this latest set photo makes the argument that we won’t see the last of The Purple Man with Jessica Jones, which could indicate he has a larger role to play in the Marvel/Netflix saga.

The Purple Man was originally a villain from the Daredevil comics, but he’s a character more significantly linked with Jessica Jones, and in particular the traumatic event that forced her to retire from being a superhero. Though, Jones and Cage also share a history, which is why it isn’t surprising that their series have been so closely linked throughout development. It’s therefor possible that Tennant’s scenes as The Purple Man for Luke Cage serve as something of a flashback to a time before either series.

Then again, seeing as The Purple Man is character with connections to several of the “street level” Marvel heroes, he would also work well as an operative for whatever big bad will unite The Defenders. And given his aptitude for manipulation and control – his abilities include emitting chemical pheromones which causes those around him to become highly suggestible – he’d be a useful ally for just about any super villain.
