This week:

Jaime Lannister (a.k.a. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) eyes Gods of Egypt; Sony options the rights to the French hit A Prophet; Carey Mulligan may play Hillary Clinton; a Luke Cage fan-film turns to Kickstarter; Bill Irwin joins Chris Nolan's Interstellar; and a Chevy Chase/Gillian Jacobs reunion in Hot Tub Time Machine 2.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones, is in talks for the lead in Gods of Egypt.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in Talks Gods of Egypt

Gods of Egypt is the next film from I, Robot director Alex Proyas, and follows the god of the sky, Horus (Waldau), as he tries to avenge the death of his father, Osiris. Given Proyas' strong affinity for the sci-fi genre, it's pretty safe to assume Gods of Egypt will be more than a generic swords and sandals epic.

Since bursting onto the scene as the "Kingslayer," Waldau has been featured in several domestic films including Mama and Oblivion. If cast in Gods, this could be the Danish actor's big break as an action star.

Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to remake A Prophet, the French crime drama released in 2010.

Sony Options A Prophet Remake Rights

A Prophet's story follows a troubled youth who rises through a French crime syndicate while incarcerated. Many critics called the film "the French Godfather."

Like many of the international films scooped up by American studios these days, A Prophet is both a critical darling and an award winner. The film debuted at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix, and it also went on to win 9 Cesar awards (the French Oscars) including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Great Gastby star Carey Mulligan is reportedly the frontrunner to play Hillary Clinton in the biopic Rodham.

Carey Mulligan in Talks Hillary Clinton Biopic

While names like Scarlett Johannson, Jessica Chastain, and Emma Stone have been connected with the film, it appears Mulligan is the clear favorite. That should come as no surprise as Mulligan's star is consistently on the rise. THR reports the actress will sit down with director James Pondsoldt to discuss the project, and that both are eager to make things work.

The biopic will follow the Secretary of State in the early stages of her career as a lawyer - more specifically her involvement with the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. And, of course, it wouldn't be a Hillary Clinton biopic if the film didn't touch upon her budding relationship with a certain William Clinton...

While it may be several years before fans see Luke Cage on the big screen - with or without Idris Elba - the Marvel Comics character may be headed to the small screen very soon, thanks to Kickstarter.

Luke Cage Short Film Kickstarter

A new campaign has started on the crowd-funding site for a project called Caged. Caged is an upcoming short film from UK-based filmmakers Sneaky Zebra that tells Luke Cage's origin story, starting with his incarceration and eventual escape from prison.

While the filmmakers don't say much about the project in their announcement video, they are asking for £3,128 from backers. They say the donations will go towards a high quality camera, lighting equipment, and securing a prison set.

It's important to note that by funding this project,d backers are not only supporting a Luke Cage short film but potentially helping the Sneaky Zebra duo secure future jobs in the industry. Kickstarter certainly has become an interesting experiment.

Film and TV actor Bill Irwin has signed on for Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi film, Interstellar.

Bill Irwin Cast Interstellar

Irwin joins a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, and Irwin's Rachel Getting Married co-star Anne Hathaway. We wouldn't be surprised if it was Hathaway - who likely formed a close bond with Nolan on Dark Knight Rises - who put in a good word for Irwin.

While not much is known about Nolan's next feature, the film is reportedly a fusion of Nolan's original idea and a prior script from his brother Jonathan. At one point, Steven Spielberg was signed on to direct, but that never panned out. Just recently, Warner Bros. cut themselves a piece of the Interstellar financial pie in exchange for the rights to South Park and Friday the 13th.

Chevy Chase is returning for Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and he's bringing his Community co-star Gillian Jacobs with him.

Chevy Chase and Gillian Jacobs Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Cast

Chase will reprise his role as the sage-like repairman who explained the hot tub's time-traveling abilities in the first film. Despite Chase having a much more open schedule after departing Community, it's unclear whether he will have a larger role in this sequel.

Jacobs, on the other hand, has landed a gig as the female lead in the film, opposite returning stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke. John Cusack will not be returning for the sequel, however, but will instead be replaced by Parks and Recreation star Adam Scott.
