The excitement for Marvel and Netflix’s next series, Luke Cage, continues to build as the release date draws closer. Viewers of Jessica Jones have already become acquainted with Mike Colter in the role, but his upcoming solo series aims to further explore the character’s backstory. As for what Cage will be dealing with in his effort to save Harlem, who will be the threat he goes up against may be more important. Mahershala Ali is set to play Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, which puts him in the position of following Kingpin and Kilgrave as the big bad.

Kingpin brought with him much more of a physical threat to Daredevil, while Kilgrave was a psychological threat Jessica. Cottonmouth could be mixture of many things, but the latest clip from the show teases the bigger-than-life mentality he has.

Netflix has released another look in the lead-up to the series premiere that focuses on Cottonmouth and his love for rap. He has a fascination with rapper The Notorious B.I.G. and one of his most iconic moments. This is not the first time this shot has been shown, but it does offer an extended look at the scene. Stokes is currently at the top of the food chain in Harlem and knows people are after his crown. After all, who doesn’t want to be the king?

cottonmouth Luke Cage Clip: Everybody Wants To Be The King

Ali is no stranger to the Netflix model after four season on House of Cards, but Cottonmouth will give him the chance to play the villain. If there is one thing to take away from this clip in particular, Ali could be the most charismatic villain that Netflix and Marvel have brought so far. He has been shown to be ruthless in previous footage, but the various productions have done an incredible job giving each villain an aspect to their story that the audience can relate to.

This looks to be a memorable role for Ali, who has already teased the complicated nature of Cottonmouth. The relationship between him and our hero will be explored in depth throughout the course of the first season, and hopefully further. Cottonmouth will not be the only villain Luke faces in his first season, but he will absolutely be the biggest, and most likely baddest, guy that he comes across.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. The Defenders and Iron Fist arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
