So there’s just a little more than 24 hours until the wait is over and we finally get to see the season premiere of Lost season 6, after we were left on a mega-cliffhanger at the end of season 5. We’ve had tons of promo stuff over the last few weeks, most of which haven’t given us a single look at any new footage. However, that recently changed when the first four minutes of season 6 leaked online and ABC then decided to post the footage on the official website (I refrained from watching it – I’ve waited this long I think can wait a day more).
Even with just a day to go, that doesn’t mean we can’t fit in one more promo update to fuel the anticipation of you Lost fans. Today we have details on the season 6 DVD release; a new promo and a few new clips that actually show new footage; an English-language version of that awesome chessboard promo we saw a while ago; some details on part of the premiere getting leaked; and the last sets of character pics that have been released hard and fast as of late. Alright, as Eloise Hawking said near the beginning of season 5 – “Let’s get started.”
First the details on the season 6 DVD. The last season hasn’t even premiered on TV and yet there are already details out there about when we’ll see it on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as what special features will be included. Although ABC or Walt Disney Home Entertainment have yet to announce anything officially, the details come from VideoETA who says we’ll get the season 6 DVD on August 24th, 2010, which is a whole FOUR months before the usual pre-Christmas release.
The box set will feature 5-discs and be a total of 714 minutes long. The DVD set will retail at $59.99 and the Blu-ray comes in at $79.99. Although no artwork is available yet, here’s the list of special features VideoETA reports:
- Original scripted content that goes deeper into some of the stories, exclusive to Blu-ray and DVD produced by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse
- LOST Bloopers & Deleted Scenes
- LOST on Location – Go behind-the-scenes and get the stories from the set, on location in Hawaii from the actors and crew who make it happen.
- Crafting A Final Season – Investigation into the goals and expectations of the season through interviews with writers, producers, cast, and crew
- Audio Commentaries
- LOST University (BD Exclusive, powered by BD-Live)
- And MUCH More!
I’m sure there will be a couple of more adjustments to that list but right now it looks pretty legit to me. Again, this is not an official announcement so you may not want to take this as absolute truth but I see no reason to doubt it at this point in time. It’s hard to tell just from the list how good the features are, but if the previous Lost box set releases are anything to go by, then they’ll be quality extras.
Now we move onto the info about the leaked season 6 premiere footage. We decided to post the leaked first four minutes a couple of days ago because ABC put it up on their site for official viewing (meaning they decided just to make the most of the situation and let people watch it properly). However, we stop short of posting what has leaked online since: the first HOUR of the season 6 premiere.
Why are we not posting it? Well, because it’s a handi-cam shot version from the beach party that took place a few days ago. I personally just don’t see the point of posting something like that, simply because I don’t understand how someone would or could sit down and watch that with the rubbish picture and sound quality. Not only is it spoiling what happens but it also ruins the experience of watching the show when it properly airs. I understand there are spoiler junkies out there who don’t care about this sort of thing, but personally I don’t see the point.
Now let’s get to the new promo trailers that have appeared online for Lost. The first one is a minute-long trailer that instead of rehashing old footage actually gives us new footage hinting at what’s in store for the season six premiere. We also have a few new sneak peek clips for your enjoyment – but to reiterate, there is new footage so if you want to stay knowing as little as possible (like me) then you might want to refrain from watching them. Anyway, here they are:
Next we have the official English language version of the amazing chessboard promo we first saw in Spanish a little while back. It features a voice-over by John Locke himself, Terry O’Quinn. Enjoy:
Finally we have the last two sets of character promo shots featuring Locke (or rather Jacob’s nemesis) and Jack. We’ve included a couple of each below (click for larger versions):
Well, that’s it for our Lost promo round-up. I think we’ve had enough of this stuff – we’ve waited eight months to find out what happened after Juliet detonated the hydrogen bomb at the bottom of the Swan station shaft. Did it work? Does Oceanic 815 land in LA like it was supposed to? What storytelling device have the writers conjured up to conclude this six-year-long story? I guess we’ll have to tune in tomorrow to find out!
Thoughts on all of these promos? And have you watched the leaked footage? Or is that kind of SPOILER seem foolish to you?
Lost season 6 premieres tomorrow (February 2nd) at 9:00pm at ABC.
