If everything proves to be true, tonight’s episode of Lost, “Ab Aeterno” will provide fans of the series with answers to questions that have been lingering from the beginning of the series. Considering that’s not an everyday occurrence – especially to Lost fans – we have set up this as place where you can freely discuss spoilers from this episode without having to worry about ruining it for someone who has yet to see it.

Considering we have two Lost spoilers posts, Lost: Final Season Spoiler Roundup and More ‘Lost’ Season 6 Spoilers; Upcoming Scenes Revealed, that provide information about what’s to occur further on in the season, please limit this discussion to events that occur in “Ab Aeterno.”

If you’re posting comments here, assume that anyone in the conversation has seen the episode – if you haven’t seen the episode, I would recommend you don’t read these comments here until you have. You’ve been warned.

  1. According to the time stamp of 1867 that was on screen when Richard rode to his his dying wife, he's 143 or 144 years old (depending on how long he was in jail). I think that you can assume that Widmore would not have bought Richard or the other prisoners on the maiden voyage in 1845.

  2. The candidates are Jack, Sawyer, Locke, sayid, hurley, and either sun or Jin

  3. Um… Kate *is a candidate. She's on the lighthouse wheel as number 51. Granted, she's not one of Hurley's numbers, but she wasn't crossed off either. In addition, the producers confirmed that her name was in the cave, but that shot ended up on the cutting room floor for some reason. Here's the screenshot with Kwon and Austen both listed:

  4. Good reveals and back story for a character that made me just scratch my head. I really hope that there's an episode that goes a little further into Jacob and the MIB's story because I think that is super interesting. I want to know there origins. I liked the ending and the metaphor with the wine bottle. When he smashed it after saying he was going to kill all of them, I think I lost it in excitement. Haha get it, “lost it”. That wasn't funny. Great episode though

  5. I feel like most people are not understanding how many candidates there are. In the cave we saw only six of them who happened to have the “numbers” written next to them. However Austen is definitly a candidate and is definitly not crossed out. What is special about the numbers next to those six characters is up in the air. But there are tons of candidate. If you want to see a list of most of the candidates, this page on lostpedia has it (the list is made from screenshots taken while jack is going through the names up in the light house…so its not like its “spoilers”…just information that you wouldnt come to know unless you had no life lol”. http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Candidates

  6. What an ep., I was shocked and upset when everyone started saying “we're in hell” I was like NOOOO this can't be, all this time for that. What I think it is coming down to is being aware in your life and the choices we make. and to trap the bad so others will not be affected. and we can live in peace…… also when is desmond coming back?, whats on the sub locked up? I can't wait till the end….peace

  7. She actually was listed on the wheel in the Lighthouse, but she just wasn't prominently featured.

  8. Haha… you, sir, have schooled in me. I turned my head during the beginning and was wondering if they showed what year it was. I shall never turn my head again! No matter what the rules are for crossing the street.

  9. thanks

  10. thanks

  11. great episode. fantastic to find out Richard's history and also more info on the man in black. I also love the replays of the episodes in the info. so much going on over the past 5 seasons that you forget things. I hope they continue this until the finale

  12. There only 6 candidates left based on what was said yesterday and Kate is not one of them. If you remember the cave with the names written on the walls, Kate's name was not in there. Also when there was a referenc eto the numbers, Kate did not have a number assigned to her

  13. Wow, what an episode. Ranks up there with episodes like The Constant, The Incident, Through the Looking Glass and Walkabout as one of the best.

  14. So Jacob isn't God, because he said he couldn't forgive Richard's sin. So the question still remains: Who are Jacob and Esau? The names are clearly Biblical… curious to see where this all ends up.

  15. Well, they haven't revealed the Man in Black's name as Esau. Esau was Jacob 's brother in the bible, right (you can tell I'm religious, can't you :P). I don't think they'll make that his name, seems too “on the nose.” But the writers HAVE said his name is important and it's definitely not a mistake they haven't revealed it yet.

  16. kates name appeared on the lighthouse wheel thing….not crossed out

  17. i cant wait to see what next weeks episode has in store…they are running out of time to answer all the questions…does anyone know what next weeks episode is about?

  18. Next weeks episode is entitled “The Package” and is supposivly expected to feature Jin and Sun…

on a side note: Kate Austin is NOT a candidate. The candidates are Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Sayid, Locke, Kwon…

It is my opinion that John Locke may have died before jacob gave his list of 6 candidates to llana. Therefore, it is a possibility that the 6 candidates are actually Sayid, Sawyer, Jack, Hurley, SUn, and Jin.

  19. <Groan> well maybe I should be schoolin myself. Sorry, I forgot to add Richard's current age of about 30 to that guess… so we're both pretty close to the closer guess of Richard being about 173. I hope he gets his HEA; that's a long time to repent.

  20. Ok… Can someone please tell me something… All this talk about good and evil (Jaccob & MIB)… What or where then does the whole DARMHA thing come into play? I'm really…. um, well… you know..

  21. Locke was the sixth one…he got crossed off.

  22. I think Jacob might be an angel

  23. I love how they use such interesting references in naming their characters. Richard Alpert is Ram Dass' birth name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Dass His name was changed from “Richard Alpert” to “Ram Dass,” which means “servant of God.” Interesting!

  24. You ready for my thoughts? Sit down. You sitting? It was nothing but “filler”. From al lindications and from what I remember reading the show was not supposed to go on this long.

I think they slated it for about 3 seasons. They had a beginning a skeleton of a middle and they knew how it was to end. So everything in between was filler. IMO.

  25. Has anyone noticed that Jacob and The MIB seem very modern looking for men that are from 150 years ago?

  26. I'm sure from time to time Jacob makes sure to bring a couple stylists on the island to spruce things up a little. ;-)

  27. Haha…. I have been saying the exact same thing for quite some time. Hopefully, we'll both turn out to be wrong.

  28. While extremely good, The Constant still remains my favorite episode. I love me some Daniel Faraday.

  29. I don't know how you can say the Dharma Initiative were “filler.” They were an integral part of the story from season 2 through to the end of season 5. They're the reason the Hatch existed (as well as the other stations), which led to Desmond pushing the button and then failing to, which then caused Oceanic 815 to crash on the Island, which is how we've come to know these characters we're with in season 6.

Since they were hinted at with the Hatch and all the stations etc throughout the second, third and fourth seasons, I think we would all be complaining if the writers hadn't have allowed us to delve into Dharma's world for a while, which is what season 5 was.

So to say the Dharma are “filler” means that so was a huge chunk of the show. The show is hard to imagine without the inclusion of the Dharma stuff, from the hints at it to us full on being in their world (in season 5).
