Another day, another set of Lost season 6 promos…

Today’s promos for the sixth and final season are a couple  more sets of promo images featuring the characters of Miles and Frank, and the other is a very funny “leaked” video that supposedly takes place after an interview about the show with the writers.

PROMO IMAGES

As stated, the new promos images we have are of Miles and Frank, who are two of  the “freighter characters” that first appeared in season 4 but have become series regulars since season 5.

Like the Ilana pics we posted, these photos don’t give away anything about what’s going to happen in the new season, but nonetheless they’re always good to see. Take a look at a couple of each (click for bigger versions):

I really like that both Miles and Frank have become series regulars going into the final season. They’re great characters that are really well written, with the two of them in particular bringing some welcome comic relief to the show. Miles is like a less-intimidating version of Sawyer (with his nickname-giving and general sarcasm), while Frank seems to be like another Hurley, adept at saying what the audience is thinking (“In my experience, the people who go out of their way to tell you they’re the good guys are the bad guys.”).

I’m not so thrilled about Ilana becoming a regular, however, since there are other characters I’d rather concentrate on (like Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell), for instance, who has also become a series regular). Although that may just be because she’s the newest character and I’m sure the writers will make her character likable eventually icon smile Lost: New Promo Images & Funny Leaked Video .

“LEAKED” VIDEO

A video has been released courtesy of Sky One, which has a lot of fun with the expectations fans have for the sixth season to produce answers. It’s done in candid-camera style (“The cameras are off, right?”) and features writers and exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse  giving away the “answer” to one of the big questions of the entire show – Who are the Adam & Eve skeletons in the cave? They also let us in on how we can find out what the last word spoken on Lost will be. Take a look, thanks to Dark UFO:

I really hope you deduced that this video doesn’t really give us answers and that you’re not nursing a sense of crushing disappointment…

It’s fun when these little teasers get released as it gives a great counter-point to the more serious stuff that can be found in other Lost promos. At least the writers have their humor caps on along with their serious and intelligent ones. That mix really comes across in the actual show.

Thoughts on this latest set of Lost season 6 promos? Are you someone who’s been a fan throughout the ups and downs of the seasons (like me)? Or are you just continuing to watch in hope of answers?

The sixth and final season of Lost will air on Tuesday February 2nd at 9:00pm, on ABC.

  1. Hey guys, appreciate the link back, nice one :)

We should have some new Jin images shortly as well.

  2. Lindelof and Cuse provide such a great model for the relationship that Hollywood could have with fans.

As for the final season – I agree, I hope that Ilana doesn't take away time that could be spent elsewhere. Maybe she'll just be in the background of some of the other character's backstories? The show has been solid throughout, sure there were a few rocky patches, but there's no way that anyone simply watching for the sake of some final answer to it all will be satisfied. The show has always been about the characters more than anything… and that's what made it so great.

  3. @Ben Kendrick,

Well, as I said in the post Ilana is a full season regular for the sixth season, the same status as Jack, Kate, Sawyer etc. So we'll definitely be seeing a lot of her (she's really involved with the story, what with Jacob visiting her to ask for help). As I said I imagine we'll all warm up to her as the writers give her more to do and more screentime. But I agree with you that at this point in time I would rather concentrate on other characters.

Also, I totally agree with what you said about it being about the characters. It's as much about the mystery, too though – I'd say about 50/50. The character stuff hardly gets talked about. People who criticize it always go on about how it doesn't give enough answers, but they don't bring up the amazing characterization and acting.

  4. Ya, I agree. I know they've mentioned a new story mechanic this season – as opposed to flashbacks/flashforwards. I wouldn't mind Illana as a central/main character. However, I'd be less interested in her getting her own character-centric episode (however that mechanic plays-out in the final season).

As for the mystery, definitely, it's a huge part of the intelligence behind the show – it's just sad when people get so frustrated with not having all the answers that they fail to appreciate the other strengths of the show.

  5. @Ben Kendrick,

Were we mysteriously separated at birth? :P I completely agree. I get really annoyed when people who complain about the show want it both ways: when they present lots of mysteries but hold back on the answers, people complain that they're not giving enough answers. But when they go into “answer mode” then people complain that there's not enough mystery. It's like, which is it, guys?

Lost gets SO much right – characterization; intriguing mystery; brilliant acting; a great sense of “what's going to happen next,” particularly at the end of each episode; an amazing mythology; on and on – and very little wrong yet people seem to focus on the latter. We should all be glad there are shows like Lost out there that take risks and actually challenge the viewer to actually think instead of just vegetating in front of the TV without giving thought to what's happening on-screen.

[SPOILER WARNING for anyone not up-to-date on the show SO FAR]

As far as Ilana goes, I don't know if we'll get a full flashback episode for her. I mean, they only have 18 episodes for the last season, would they really devote a whole hour to a character we've only seen for half a season? Frank is also a full season regular now and I doubt we'll even get a flashback episode for him, either. I believe the writers said we'll be getting one for Richard Alpert, though, which is because he's important to the explaining of the Island's history. Personally – and this is just me speculating, I'm not basing this on any spoiler info or anything – I think Richard will have been on the Black Rock, maybe even the Captain of it. And when he got there Jacob brought him in and gave him the “Advisor” role Ben mentioned to Sun he has, with the ability not to age in order to advise whoever is the leader at any given time (Ben, Locke etc) throughout the proceeding years.
