  1. Glad to have Marvel movie news back, Bravo to Anthony Ocasio on the map and the pronunciation of the 9 realms…

The interview I saw where Chris Evans said that he wanted to do the cameo he also stated in an interview that he wouldn’t, “hold them over the coals” meaning contract wise if they wanted him to do a cameo especially he would especially since he wants to do the cameo…

Rob makes a good point that Alan Taylor has dealt with many different complicated plots going on as he has directed episodes of Lost, Deadwood, Rome, Sopranos, & of course Game of Thrones but this is his Directional debut in Film, so we shall see I’m holding out hope that they can make all of it work Thor should have Lord of the Rings epic potential but it could become a disaster…

I don’t know how I feel about Mark Millar, his producing credits are interesting(Wanted & Kick Ass) but I feel like them getting Millar might actually help their possible Cinematic Universe since he really knows comics and they might make good stories and Ben’s is down on the Fox movies(so am I) but X-Men: First Class was pretty damn good and they might be able to make it work…

    • I hope the Millar move pays off. I’d love to see Fox up their game.

      • I’m somewhat optimistic about Millars role since he has at least produced & written “successful” comicbook adaptation like Kickass & Wanted but Geoff Johns had a similar role with Green Lantern & we saw how that turned out but Millar doing this is like Bruce Timm having a role with Warner Brothers in Justice League movie…

  2. Thanks again, chaps. Any chance of releasing the Green Lantern and Transformers ‘lost podcast archives’ any time soon?

    • +1

I listened to all the older podcast over the last few weeks and every couple of shows or so Ben promised to release them some day. But so far “some day” hasn’t arrived yet, unfortunately.

Don’t force us to start a partition, Ben! You know that paritions are a useless waste of time, so why would you force us to start one? Why!?

      • *petition(s)! Why the hell did I write partition”?

      • lol. Well, with Vactor now producing the cast, we *might* be able to have him take a look at it and piece it together. Might be good to time with the release of Man of Steel or something.

        • I love that it’s a running joke at this point. I think it’s got episode 100 material written all over it.

  3. This weekend Box Office

    2. Frankenweenie
    3. Looper

  4. Hey guys great podcast per usual!! Love these. Also like the new listener box office battle looking forward to the reveal of those prizes Ben. Lol

Okay so love the catch up on marel news. Anna Kendrick is a great actress and I think she’ll do great in cap 2. Thor 2 is my most anticipated solo sequel besides cap 2. Always been a huge Thor fan and loved the first one.

Do u guys think they will wait for THANOS to obtain the gauntlet untill guardians? I kind of think THANOS will obtain it in guardians or avengers two if he’s in it but not the main guy.

I also want to see red skull. Make another appearance. Cuz I think he’s lost in the universe somewhere.

And as much as I would love to see cap cameo in Thor I agree I think it would be very hard to do without people complaining about why he wouldn’t help Thor with whatever. Bit I do expect banner to pop up once or twice an looking forward to see more Maria hill. Hopefully she’ll have something to do other then stand by Sam Jackson.

Fox and marvel. Well hopefully they know what there doing. I’m hesitant on them connecting to the wolverine and original trilogy. First class was great and I was looking forward to see the beginning of jean and Scott and them coming but well see I guess.

      • False. Because if you did, we’d know!

        • I don’t tell you guys everything.

    • Haha. Maybe it’s the Box Office Battle prize ;)

  5. Box Office:

    1. Frankenweenie
    2. Taken 2
    3. Hotel Transylvania
    4. Pitch Perfect
    5. Looper
    10. Resident Evil: Retribution

  6. Another good SR podcast! Keep up the good work. And FYI – I don’t mind Marvel/WB/Fox news every week. There is so much happening…. It’s a good time to be a comic book geek.

The BOB segment was really entertaining, even though it contained zero bad movie reviews, it was still funny to hear you guys rip on each other. I think the new BOB format is a hit, and it’s going to get even better. You guys are going to have to invent your own language to describe the terrible problems inherent in the bad cinema on deck. Give the new terms some funny names, like Kofi’s “photage,” and you are off to the races.

As far as Looper goes…. I haven’t seen it yet. I’m no stranger to time travel concepts, since I’m a Sci-Fi veteran from way back. I started reading science fiction in middle school, and I’m and old guy now, so that’s a lot of weird ideas that have passed through my head. I’m also a long time Doctor Who fan. From your review it sounds like Looper messed up their continuity line. Couldn’t they have made a good, interesting time travel movie, without screwing up the theory of time travel? Lots of books, movies and TV shows manage to stay somewhat consistent. Either go with the solid single line theory, or go with the parallel universe theory, like 12 Monkeys (Bruce Willis again), or Back to the Future. One or the other.

I’m not sure I want to see the movie now.

    • I think its worth watching even for the headaches that come after while talking about time travel. I saw it and though i think the problem was they hinted at both a solid single line and parrelel universes theories. Giving me an inconclusive theory on which the actual movie wanted to use. Either way i really enjoyed it, and i have loved talking about the movie the past couple days. Best part about time travel movies is thinking of theories.

      • Yah, I’ve found myself having some enjoyable and downright hilarious conversations about this one.

  7. If my memory serves me correct, there was a scene in which Old Joe’s wife was watching a news broadcast (or it was on). In that broadcast it showed the city in turmoil and talked about how the rainmaker has immerged and negatively affected the cities.

    • That could definitely be the case. I thought the character was positioned as a problem for everyone not just Loopers.

  8. 1. Frankenweenie

  10. Does this mean you guys aren’t going to give out weekly shout outs to the winner of the box office battle?

    • Sorry for the confusion! We will still be announcing reader winners. We’ll just be one week behind – so we can report those with accurate numbers. We just didn’t do one this week because… we needed to accommodate for the change.

      • alright sounds good!

  11. Watching The Wire is not a punishment…The Wire is awesome yo!! XD

    • No doubt. The box office winner prize has been a fun way to get each other into shows that we’ve each been passionate about. I’ve been putting off The Wire because I know I’ll be addicted in no time.

  12. 1. Taken 2

  15. Ben, I completely agree with your statement about kid’s movies. That’s what I love about Pixar films. I saw the original Toy Story as a kid in 1995. Today, I still love that film. They make movies for both kids and adults, which is genius. Parents are going to be taking kids to animated films most likely, so why not put some effort into it and make a solid story?

    • I’m glad someone feels the same way. I’ve been scared to look in the comments of my Hotel Transylvania review. I’m just going to let that one fade into the back of my mind.

    • Adults don’t just take kids to movies and see it once, they’re often stuck with the movies on a constant loop at home. My sister is a good deal younger than me and she would obsess over particular films and watch them endlessly, when it’s something intelligent and with some depth, you find the experience a bit more tolerable and can discover new things with each viewing.

    • Interesting. I see what you mean… and agree that fleshing out the universe would have helped clear up that confusion.

  16. Loved the Marvel news! I don’t see why Daredevil ca’t do a stand alone movie like Ghost Rider or Blade. And with that I just mentioned 3 characters who we might not see on the big screen for a long time. Guess I could add Deadpool to that list as well.

    Ok this weeks picks:

    1 Frankenweenie
    2 Taken 2
    3 Hotel Transylvania
    4 Pitch Perfect
    5 Looper

    10 Dredd

    • Yah, I wouldn’t hold your breath for reboots (or sequels) of those three movie franchises any time soon!

  17. Screenrant Podcasters,

Since I happened upon the Screenrant website about a month ago I have been listening through and catching up with all of the podcasts/reviews. They are a blast to listen to! Keep up the good work.

I have a television related question for the four of you. One of my favorite shows that was canceled in the first season was AMC’s Rubicon. What did you think of the show? Were you fans?

    • Thanks Luke!

I’ve not seen Rubicon but I’ll ask the other Ranters.

      • I haven’t seen it either but I was pretty intrigued by the teasers. Might have to check this one out now.

  18. This weeks picks:

    1. Frankenweenie
    2. Taken 2
    3. Pitch Perfect
    4. Looper
    5. Hotel Transylvania

    10. Dredd

    I enjoyed Taken, but I did NOT have to see it in theaters. I think others might feel this way about spending the money to see a sequel (Taken 2)that is pretty much the same story as the first one;

    I have a feeling that word of mouth may benfit Looper;

And I think that a second childrens movie (Frankenweenie) may take away from Hotel Transylvania’s earnings. Plus, Frankenweenie is about a dog reuniting with a little boy which sounds more appealing than a vampire operating a resort and having to deal with his daughter.

    We shall see.

    • Haha. When you break it down like that… Frankenweenie should kill Hotel Transylvania. Hopefully you’re right!

      • WOW…WOW…WOW…I was way off. The Neesonator dominated and apparently a resort running vampire is more interesting. Ouch!

  19. 1) Taken 2
    3)Hotel Transylvania
    5)End of Watch

  20. I thought looper was disappointing. I liked the first part until JGL goes to the farm. I thought the AKIRA kid was lame. I disagree with kofi about the kids acting. I thought it was bad. He lines were robotic and his direction was basically “Hey buddy Yell really loud.” Or “Hold this cloth to your face and look really mean.” Also I find the Time travel logic really distracting because alot doesn’t add up. (How could JGL have a Flash forward of shooting the mom If he hasn’t done yet when he’s?) I think its a solid 2 1/2 star movie because it at least tried something different.

  21. Looper is on many levels a remake of the first two Terminator movies with the same philosophy of the future not being set. The characters are just given different backgrounds and the antagonists are a crime syndicate rather than an artificial intelligence set to eradicate mankind. Bruce Willis plays the Terminator, gone back in time to kill the boy who has a special destiny in the future.
Since most of the characters were not good people, I found myself not really caring who lived or died at the end. Although the plot is very similar to the Terminator movies, all the plot points in Looper aren’t nearly as engaging or as interesting as James Cameron’s versions. This is too bad because normally I would love a movie like this and I came in excited about a “thinking man’s” Sci-Fi story. Looper takes it’s place alongside a year full of disappointing reboots and lame sequels.
