The Lone Ranger debuted its Super Bowl Trailer, giving us a better look at director Gore Verbinski’s new project with his Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp.

Watch it above.

In this retelling of The Lone Ranger legacy from Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, the masked hero (Armie Hammer) is once again partnered with Native American companion Tonto (Johnny Depp) to fight injustice in the Old American West. This time, the threat comes from industrialist Latham Cole (Tom Wilkinson) – who utilizes the recent invention of railroad technology to carve a path of malevolence on his way to money and power. Will the two unlikely heroes stop Cole before the greedy evildoer can secure power and authority that could shape the West in all the wrong ways? Hi-yo, Silver! Away!

  1. not bad. Will be seeing this in theaters. Still wondering how the heck did they manage to spend 250 mil on a western <.<

  2. Still doesn’t look like another Pirates of the Caribbean. But I’ve got to say, the action here is pretty impressive.

  3. I love the style, looks like fun. I can’t wait to be disappointed, lol!

  4. My momma always said, “Johnny Depp’s movies are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

  5. What excited me more about this, is that they aren’t showing the same gag over and over again in every trailer. to me that means they have enough interesting material to fill trailers and, if we are lucky, the whole movie

  6. Still looks good to me looking forward to it

  7. And where exactly did they spend, what was it, like 250 mil. on this?

    • Hear hear! None of the Ranger trailers have done anything for me. Unless the post-premier buzz is staggering, this’ll be a rent.

      • Got to think making real trains aint cheap

  8. $250 Million budget & I’m sure at least another 75 – 100 M to be spent on advertisements I have a bad feeling this movie is going to be a huge financial bust… Just not feeling this movie is going to catch on… May actually make John Carter’s finances look good.

  9. I so want this movie to be good. To be honest this is the first trailer that has given me hope it will be however I feel Depp is going to play Tonto a bit too much like Jack Sparrow and is just going to ruin the whole thing.

  10. Here are the 6 types of films you should now expect disney to produce every year.

-Animation (Winnie The Pooh, Wreck-it Ralph, Frozen)
-Pixar (Cars 2, Brave, Monster University)
-Odd-Animation (Mars Needs Moms, Frankenweenie, Planes)
-Super Heroes (Captain America, Avengers, Iron Man 3)
-Fairytale Tune-up (Alice in Wonderland, Oz the Great and Powerful, Maleficent)
-High concept action/fantasy (Prince of Persia, Pirates, John Carter, Lone Ranger)

Since the last Pirate movies have been so wildly popular, Disney has been looking for a new franchise to market to boys and be uniquely Disney. Prince of Persia and John Carter didnt work. Their next try is Lone Ranger. We know that Disney isnt wasting time working on Pirates 5, but depending on the success of The Lone Ranger, we may see Pirates 5 be the last for a while and a shift into Lone Ranger sequels.

Aside from a few odd films (Muppets, Odd Life of Timothy Green, Saving Mr. Banks) the only outstanding films in my theory are the Sci-fi ones. Tron Legacy and the new Star Wars Movies (possibly “1952″). Its really unclear trying to see where they are going with those movies. But those are going to be less regular.
