Case in point: today, we have a Russian-dubbed Lone Ranger trailer that includes a healthy amount of brand-new footage; much of which, once again, showcases the train set pieces and action sequences that contributed to the film's much talked-about $200-250 million price tag.
Lone Ranger is a retelling of the legend about how a noble lawman (Hammer) was left for dead by bandits, prior to him being rescued by an unusual Native American spirit warrior (Depp). The pair, united by their desire to bring order and justice to the wild Old West, join forces to become the eponymous masked vigilante and his sidekick - who, together, work to take down a pack of despicable characters. That includes a railroad tycoon (Tom Wilkinson) and his vicious cronie (William Fichtner) with an eye on controlling the budding Transcontinental railroad system.
Here's a new Lone Ranger poster, in promotion for the upcoming D23 Expo 2013 (from August 9th-11th in Anaheim):

Lone Ranger reunited Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3 director Gore Verbinski, as well as screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, with Depp. That makes this the fifth collaboration between the A-list star and Verbinski after the Pirates trilogy and the Oscar-winning animated western Rango; indeed, there are multiple elements carried over from their past collaborations, enough so that it's been mentioned (ad nauseum) that Lone Ranger might as well be called "Pirates of the Old West."
However, at the end of the day, Verbinski looks to deliver exactly what he intended to make from the beginning: a crowd-pleasing popcorn flick with touches of quirky humor and even a bit of philosophical content thrown in for good measure. Here's to hoping this falls closer to the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie, rather than its lukewarm sequels.
