Twentieth Century Fox's X-Men film franchise arguably paved the way for today's massively popular comic book-based cinematic universes. Launched with Bryan Singer's X-Men in 2000, the original trilogy included X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, both featuring the titular team as led by Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Fox then delved into the history of a fan-favorite character with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though the film was derided by fans and critics alike, it launched a solo series for Wolverine that was followed by Jame Mangold's The Wolverine in 2013 and the upcoming Logan.

Said to be Jackman's last turn in the mutton chops and adamantium claws, Logan sees an aged Wolverine taking care of an ailing Charles Xavier. But, their plans change when a young mutant by the name of Laura (Dafne Keen) comes along. Trailers for Logan have teased a Western tone to the film, which is loosely based on the Old Man Logan comic storyline. Now, new TV spots confirm certain aspects of the X-Men universe as it will appear in Logan.

In the first TV spot [above], Logan can be seen saying, "They're gone now," in response to Charles talking about mutants. But later in the footage, Charles also says, "Where we're going, there are more of them." This spot additionally features Caliban (Stephen Merchant), telling Wolverine he's not healing as quickly. The second TV spot [below] focuses more on Laura, with Charles saying, "She can learn to be better," and when Wolverine asks if she can be better than him, Charles simply answers, "Actually, yes."

Additionally, the second TV spot features footage of Charles saying to Logan, "she's very much like you" in reference to Laura, interspersed with the words: "A little attitude runs in the family." Although it has yet to be officially confirmed that Laura is, in fact, X-23 (the character is never explicitly referred to as X-23), it seems these new TV spots come as close to doing so as we're likely to see in the run up to Logan. In the comics, Laura Kinney aka X-23 is a clone-daughter of Wolverine who possesses many of the same abilities - though she has adamantium claws in her feet as well as her hands.

Considering the similarities between Laura and Wolverine in the Logan trailers, in addition to Charles's comments in these latest TV spots, it would seem Keen's character is a young version of X-23. Plus, given all the action sequences showcased in this latest footage as well as the previously released trailers, Laura will certainly hold her own in a fight alongside Wolverine. And, if Charles is to be believed, she can one day be even better than Wolverine himself.

Of course, we won't know the full story surrounding Laura or Wolverine until Logan hits theaters. But, with little more than a month left until the film's release, fans won't need to wait long. Plus, based on early reactions to footage - not to mention Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds's glowing endorsement - fans will be treated to a unique X-Men experience when Logan premieres next month.
