After a tantalizing teaser campaign featuring a series of black-and-white photographs, the wait is over and the first trailer for Logan - Hugh Jackman's final solo outing as everyone's favorite adamantium-clawed mutant, Wolverine - has finally arrived. Directed by James Mangold, who also helmed The Wolverine, Logan takes place in the future and sees its titular character (who has finally acquired some scars and gray hair) living out in the sticks with Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and a girl who is presumably his daughter (Dafne Keen).
It's been widely rumored that the mutant Laura Kinney a.k.a. X-23 - a female clone of Wolverine - would appear in Logan, and this trailer more or less confirms it. Though it's not clear whether the clawed mutant who attacks Logan in one shot is the same little girl we see throughout the rest of the trailer, it's a fair assumption to make. The trailer also offers a first look at antagonist Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook), a cyborg with a robot hand who works as the head of security for a global corporation.
X-Men: First Class director of photography John Mathieson returned to the X-Men franchise to work on Logan, and this trailer (set to Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt," by Nine Inch Nails) features some downright beautiful shots. We've assembled some of the best stills into a gallery, which you can check out below.
