Rumors have been swirling around the upcoming Wolverine solo outing this week, as fans and news sources covered the possibility of a post-credits scene for the film. Initially, reports seemed to confirm that Logan would indeed feature a post-credits scene, before director James Mangold shot down the possibility. Given the tone of the film, it seems that a cute post-credits scene, Deadpool-style, just wouldn’t be appropriate for our final farewell to Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of this iconic X-Men character.
As the story continues to update, however, new information has brought to light the possibility there will still be a fun, promotional scene for an upcoming X-Men movie… just not at the end of the film.
The latest reports from Collider (who originally broke the story), correct their original assertion that the film would have a post-credit scene, but also claim that Logan does have a surprise in store for fans.
After doing some digging I’ve learned I wasn’t altogether wrong about Logan having something cool for the fans. But instead of it being after the credits, maybe it’s before the movie has started… [emphasis ours]
Having a pre-movie scene would actually make a lot of sense for Logan. Ryan Reynolds has reportedly filmed something for the Wolverine film, which is now being described as a promo. This could be part of a clever, Deadpool-style marketing campaign, but it’s also highly likely this scene will show up as the “something cool” Collider is hinting at. The scene reportedly involves Ryan Reynolds and Stan Lee.
There are several things that we could see in this potential pre-movie scene, and all of them sound pretty exciting. This could be another fourth-wall breaking moment from Deadpool, similar to what he did for his own post-credits scene, which would certainly be a moment of fun before what promises to be a very heavy movie (as well as being a little extra promo for Deadpool 2). We also know that the next two Deadpool movies are going to be instrumental in setting up X-Force, a team that Wolverine is very closely connected to, so perhaps we will be seeing Logan talking to Wade about the team? This could also explain why Wolverine (presumably) won’t be a part of any future X-Force movies. We may even see the introduction of Cable or Domino, characters who have been confirmed for Deadpool 2, but not yet officially cast. Finally, a pre-movie scene could even be a teaser for the next primary X-Men movie, Supernova, although we’re not quite sure how Deadpool would fit into that timeline.
We are absolutely thrilled at the idea of a pre-movie scene for this particular film, and potentially for more superhero movies in the future. Pre- and post-credits scenes might be a little too much, but some fans are loving those movies which feature mid-credits and post-credits scenes, so we are sure that this new spot for a promo scene could work. With all the updates this week, we may soon discover whether or not this will be a part of Logan, and we’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.
