Lobo To Be Played By Clancy Brown?

We put an empty can with a string attached to our ears and heard Mania.com whisper that Clancy Brown, the man who played the formidable and creepy Brother Justin Crowe in HBO’s Carnivale, as well as the heartless Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption, keeps coming up in conversations over at Warner Bros. about who should play Lobo.

Also under discussion, apparently, is just how much CGI should be used for the character.  Brown is also an accomplished voiceover artist, working as Mr. Sinister in Wolverine and the X-Men and Mr. Eugene H. Krabs in SpongeBob Squarepants. As of late you can spot him in the teaser trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Lobo is an intergalatic bounty-hunter known for getting his man, getting incredibly violent and imbibing a hefty amount of  libation when the mood strikes him.  The film adaptation of the character is being helmed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) working from a script that was (at last report) being penned by Don Payne (Rise of the Silver Surfer). Warner Bros. apparently wants the film to PG-13, which is something of a disappointment – unless they plan to push that rating to the limit.

Seems to me Brown is the perfect choice for a menacing, intimidating anti-hero.  Of course we here at Screen Rant also have our own list of nominees to play Lobo. Can you think of a better choice, Or is Brown a good fit in your opinion?

(Still) no word on when Lobo would hit theaters more powerfully than a locomotive.

    I don't think this will happen but I have been wrong before
  • Sign me up. Clancy is one of the most underused talents in the acting industry and his physical prowess and that he "gets" a character like Lobo put him into the same convention as Ron Perlman was for Hellboy. Great potential choice.

    He was also the voice of Lex Luthor in the Superman animated program.

    For fun, try imagining the voice of Mr. Krabbs emminating from the mouth of Lex Luthor. I laugh every time.

    Clancy brown has been one of my favorite "b" movie actors for years and he's been in some real gems. Highlander was great, he really established (typecast) himself as the "go-to" villain, and he's had that status for 20-something years now.

    For Lobo, they'd have to use a little FX/beowulf style CG to alter him, old Clancy is getting long in the tooth. And I think Lobo's race ages more slowly than ours, if at all... The original bad a** is near immortal.

    PG rating???? Are you kidding me? This should be bloodsport meets Conan with lasers and spaceships and sex and drugs and booze and war and swearing and... something like a Devil's Rejects rating would be expected, not PG. This is lightweight BULL****!!!

    Pardon but the first time I picked up a Lobo to read, it was early 90's and I then knew what that era's version of cool meant. The nilhilistic anti-hero, Lobo, like Punisher, Judge Dread... Lobo was by far, the Coolest of the lot.

    KURGAN indeedy! Clancy Brown is my number 1 choice, Lobo might just be the perfect role for him.

    To anyone thinking he's too old: Ron Perlman is pushing 60 and you don't see him slowing down, well neither is Clancy! :)

    Id think Clancy brown would be great to play The Main Man. He always delivers whether if he's a anti-hero, or villain. His voice would sound like it matches the character. And on unrelated news id agree with Lord Garth that he'd be perfect for a live action version of Lex Luthor as his voice was for Superman: TAS. Ron Perlman would be another good choice but with him known as Hellboy, it would be better to have Clancy Brown in the role.

    Can't object to Brown getting the role but a PG-13? And written by the guy who wasted the Silver Surfer's big screen debut? Which bastich voted that in?

    jeffrey dean morgan. did fantastic as the comedian in watchmen who was also a similar anti hero.

    brown isn't a bad choice, but morgan can pull off the good sinister pretty well.
