For several years now (and several Spider-Man movies) fans have waited to see The Lizard make his appearance on screen. The character, whose real name is Dr. Curt Connors, was previously played by Dylan Baker in the last two Sam Raimi Spidey movies but he never had the chance to undergo his reptilian transformation.

Now, as Sony Pictures reboots the franchise with Marc Webb at the helm, actor Rhys Ifans gets the chance to play the full extent of the character on screen for The Amazing Spider-Man. But just what will he look in costume, make-up and prosthetics? We know have our first hint.

Earlier today we reported on set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man that revealed our first look at star Andrew Garfield in costume as regular ol’ nerdy Peter Parker, the modern more edgier version of course.

More set photos have surfaced online, featuring shots of Parker (Garfiend), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and our very first look at what most certainly is The Lizard, although he’s mostly concealed and we cannot confirm from this image alone if it’s Rhys Ifans hidden under the garments.

The crew is doing their best to maintain secrecy on set, but now that we got our first hint of The Lizard, it won’t be long until we see more. Expect the full reveal and early footage to be shown at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The franchise so far has done a rather remarkable job at nailing some of the characters from Marvel Comics. The goblins aside, Doctor Octopus, Sandman and the Spider-Man costumes have all been very true to form, helping prove that films can use the colorful costumes from the comics and make it work. The Lizard’s costume is one of the more believable and practical designs, since it can be done mostly with makeup and prosthetics, offering plenty of facial detail.

It’s not much, but what do you think?

The Amazing Spider-Man was written by James Vanderbilt, Steve Kloves and Alvin Sargent and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Embeth Davidtz, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan and Chris Zylka.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 3, 2012.
