The Amazing Spider Man Lizard First Hint of The Lizard in The Amazing Spider Man

For several years now (and several Spider-Man movies) fans have waited to see The Lizard make his appearance on screen. The character, whose real name is Dr. Curt Connors, was previously played by Dylan Baker in the last two Sam Raimi Spidey movies but he never had the chance to undergo his reptilian transformation.

Now, as Sony Pictures reboots the franchise with Marc Webb at the helm, actor Rhys Ifans gets the chance to play the full extent of the character on screen for The Amazing Spider-Man. But just what will he look in costume, make-up and prosthetics? We know have our first hint.

Earlier today we reported on set photos from The Amazing Spider-Man that revealed our first look at star Andrew Garfield in costume as regular ol’ nerdy Peter Parker, the modern more edgier version of course.

More set photos have surfaced online, featuring shots of Parker (Garfiend), Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and our very first look at what most certainly is The Lizard, although he’s mostly concealed and we cannot confirm from this image alone if it’s Rhys Ifans hidden under the garments.

The crew is doing their best to maintain secrecy on set, but now that we got our first hint of The Lizard, it won’t be long until we see more. Expect the full reveal and early footage to be shown at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The franchise so far has done a rather remarkable job at nailing some of the characters from Marvel Comics. The goblins aside, Doctor Octopus, Sandman and the Spider-Man costumes have all been very true to form, helping prove that films can use the colorful costumes from the comics and make it work. The Lizard’s costume is one of the more believable and practical designs, since it can be done mostly with makeup and prosthetics, offering plenty of facial detail.

It’s not much, but what do you think?

The Amazing Spider-Man was written by James Vanderbilt, Steve Kloves and Alvin Sargent and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Embeth Davidtz, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan and Chris Zylka.

The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 3, 2012.

  1. Its definitely the lizard! im excited! :)

  2. I see that they didn’t go with the full blown green skin. It doesn’t matter to me as long as it looks good. I’m excited even more for this film and am a big fan of the Lizard (especially the recent stories with him like “Shed”). It’s still hard for me to picture Rhys Ifans as the Lizard…but maybe that’s a good thing

    • Why does Spider-Man have a skate board? shouldn’t he have like, a physics chart?

      • I noticed that afterwards lol

        • i feel like parkers more of the bicycle kinda guy

  3. OMH, that’s not the Lizard. It’s Michael Jackson! So the whole overdose thing was a scam? Spiderman vs The King of Pop FTW!

Seriously though…..If that’s the final product I will be bitching to high heaven. I want to see, oh I don’t know, a LIZARD head (and a big tail). Not some guy painted up with a few scales and a forked tongue. My only thought is what we are seeing there is the first part of the transformation and the final product will be all CGI?

  4. Garfield with that skateboard looks awkward, I doubt he’s ever been on one.

  5. Looks more like Stegron. :D

    • LOL Stegron, now there’s a great reference.

  6. Really interested to see how it goes, and what it looks like. I hope they put a big budget into special effects/CGI to really make this character come to life.. he’s hoping!

  7. But will Spider-Pig be in this? THAT is the question.

    Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig. / Does whatever a Spider-Pig does. / Can he swing / from a web? / No he *can’t*, / He’s a pig. / Look out! / He is the Spider-Pig!

    • lmao!

      • what do you wanna bet that some random bald guy with 5oclockshadow in the crowd will be holding a pig in a spidersuit?

    • Spider-Pig? Is that Spider-Ham’s third world country knock-off?

Peter Porker would be annoyed if he had a clone.

  8. Why does every piece of news for this movie make me throw-up in my mouth a little?

    • Maybe you have acid reflux. May want to see a Doctor about that.

      • While that is true … my medicine helps with that … so …

        • Well then thats all I got.

Is it only this movie? Maybe you have a phobia of lizards or spiders and the reflux is a natural reaction.

Maybe you have a deep fear of change? Do you continously do the same thing over and over and if something is different have a reaction to it? Being that this movie is about change from the age old history of Spiderman you may be reacting to it?

Do you fear men with hoods?

I actually think it may be your body defending itself against something you are afraid of? You know like those birds that throw up when they feel threatened….

(im just having fun with you a little… ;) )

          • “I actually think it may be your body defending itself against something”

Yes … Hollywood producing another suck Spiderman movie. :)

          • LOL@ “deep fear of change!” Classic!

        • Maybe you shouldn’t take your medicine with a bottle of vodka. :-D

          • I don’t drink, but this movie may drive me to it.

          • But that’s how I can tell what kind of medicine I’m taking…
            Green pill goes with Gin
            Red pill goes with Vodka
            Yellow pill goes with Tequila
            Blue pill goes with Scotch
and the black pill goes with Kahlua

All taken in less than 5 minutes :p hehehe

            • That explains a lot. :-P

          • Vodka wouldn’t be so bad but Tequila, that you gotta be careful of… ಠ☠ಠ
            !

  9. IDK INK cuz with a cast like that i wouldnt be and im not throwing up Rami’s film’s were Decent at best this movie will blow those out the water.

    • Confidence … it’s harder to grow than you think.

      • I have absolute zero confidence in this movie, Peter is a skateboarder? I am still hung up on the costume changes. And I wouldn’t be shocked if the Lizard, whom I should be excited to see, turns out to resemble the Geico Gecko. I know why this film is looking sweet & lo…Avi Arad. It was his insisting interference with SP3 is main reason that movie sucked. But I’m not bitter, can u tell???

  10. i reckon we’ll see some web slinging on a skateboard which would be pretty awesome, and i think thats just the start of the transformation of the lizard, if not then its gonna look really crappy, but they did say that these spidey films were gonna be more realistic then Raimi’s spideys

  11. anyway , I dont think its The Lizard, I think its Proto Goblin…….

    • @ Loco

Id have to agree that it could be Proto Goblin unless it’s Connors first slowly mutatating into the Lizard. Doesn’t look convincing to me, i mean wouldn’t Lizard have a snout grow out? Anyways the picture of him makes him look almost a muslim woman.

      • i think it myight be the early stages. remeber in the 90s cartoons when ever connors was getting close to changing he looked like a pale green old man

  12. I don’t know, I’m not sure that’s the Lizard. It could be, I’m just not convinced. We’ll see.

  13. can’t get in to the idea of peter with a skateboard, seeme like a gimmick to me. i’ve got an open mind, but will this movie destroy itself in it’s attempts at trying to be more “edgy”?

    • I mean, there’s always the fact that some people use skateboards to get around. It IS faster than walking, and they take up less space than a bike.

  14. The dude in the hood is giving me a serious Deadpool vibe.

Deadpool from the Wolverine movie that is.

That would be epic, eh? Two super heroes who won’t just shut up.

But seriously. It looks like the Wolverine movie’s Deadpool.

  15. Looks more like a Morlock to me!! It might be the Super-Skrull! It could be Bruce Banner in the midst of transforming! It could be a random guy on the set who was feeling noxious and didn’t want to be photographed in case he threw up.

  16. I want this movie to be good, but every fiber of my being still feels it is going to be the biggest turd ever. The newest pictures don’t change that.

  17. the lizard should have been cgi and practical effects like the queen alien in AVP

    • So something like we see now with the hood there and a CGI snout and tail maybe similar to what we see with Ryan Reynolds and his GL costume?

Works for me. Nice shiny scaly CGI skin.

      • no like a big frickin lizard like in the comics that has a huge lizard head not a werelizard with a guy wearing prosthetics i want to see this
http://media.photobucket.com/image/spider-man/Naite22/the-lizard-spider-man-4.png?o=13 thats the lizard we should get and spiderman going head to head with that would be epic i dont need another power ranger green goblin. so im not down with the werelizard

        • Oh so no real actor at all. That link looks more like a reject from Jurassic Park instead of a human that takes lizard traits from an injection that was suppose to reproduce the regenerative propeties of said lizard.

While I agree I dont want to see a “snake man” ala Ssssssss I would like to see the Lizard (or close to it) that I know and grew up with over the one you linked.

        • This is the Harlequin Ichthyosis Lizard and the Emo Teen Angst Spider-Man. Sigh…

          Nuff said.

          • it was an example of what i meant by cgi not that trex picture in particular

        • thats a photoshopped version of the t-rexes from king kong. i dont want to see spidey fighting them.

  18. Oh hot damn.

    It’s a hobo. Mystery solved.

    • … a hobo that just got off a sub-zero roller coaster.

      • A hobo with a shotgun!

  19. doesn’t anyone see the picture background of andrew garfield/peter parker?

    • oscorp sign….great

  20. I think this & that X-Men First Class movie will make an excellent 2 for $10 Blu-Ray combo pack at Wal-Mart. They can market it as “Two Stand-Alone Marvel Movies”

    LOL

  21. So Peter Parker is a cool skater boi? And the Lizard is a bank robber? Haha

    • lol

  22. Guys, how on earth do you know that’s Conners/Lizard?? Its just a guy with a dressing-gown on. It might ust be a guy with a small part etc…?

    • Steve,

and why are you picking on him because of his small ahem…”part?”

      • Picking on who? What are you talking about, man!?

      • lol good one!

  23. That blue mask makes me think they’re going to use CGI for some of the effects if not all the effects for the Lizard’s face. Should be interesting to see.
