It’s been a long-standing rumor that the original Sarah Connor, Linda Hamilton, would be making an appearance in Terminator: Salvation.
Well now that rumor has been confirmed by the actress herself: Linda Hamilton is currently in negotiations to appear in Terminator: Salvation, and we’ve got the details on the where and how.
At this year’s New York Comic Con Terminator Salvation director McG informed us that Sarah Connor would be “a key figure” in the film, and that much of the plot would (indirectly) revolve around her character. Of course, McG meant this in reference to the character (i.e. “personality”) of Sarah Connor; factoring the actual Sarah Connor into the plot of Salvation wouldn’t make a lick of sense at all, since we already know she dies before the post-Judgment Day future is realized.
So what room does that leave for Linda Hamilton in Terminator Salvation?
“My contribution would be voiceover,” [Hamilton] said. “I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is. Wait and see. They’re already writing it. We’ve been negotiating it… It would be great fun.”
Of course this voice-over “role” is exactly what many of us around the blogosphere have been predicting would be the case for some time now. So kudos to all of us who called it early. However, Hamilton’s support of T4 does lend McG some series Terminator street cred: Hamilton steered clear of T3 when it was in production, and we all know how THAT film turned out. So whatever is impressing her about McG’s take on the franchise, it’s a safe bet that it will also impress many of those amongst the Terminator faithful.
Or will it?
Is Linda Hamilton’s involvement enough to make you believe that Terminator Salvation will live up to what fans have come to expect from the franchise? Or do you still have your doubts?
Terminator Salvation hits theaters on May 21, 2009.
